DVX100A 24PA audio sync issue

Curious if anyone might be able to pin point me to what has happened.

Been recording 24PA for a few weeks on my new DVX100A with no sync issues at all, when I capture in FCP everything is perfect.

Today, I shot a scene and while shooting I could have sworn I noticed a delay in monitoring, but at that moment I brushed it off. After I captured tonight I find all of my audio ahead of the video by 2 frames. Any clues on what I might have done? I thought this was a non issue with 100A?

Question: On a 100 where there is suppose to be a 24PA sync issues can you notice a delay when monitoring the audio with headphones?

I'm curious if I accidently switched an audio setting in the camera or something, however I've been over it and don't notice anything. Really confusing me to have several successfuly 24PA shoots with no issues until now. Any insight would be appreciated.

I used a Sennheiser ME66 on Input 2 with phantom power ON. The only thing I can say I did different this time was I removed the battery from the mic, on all prior shoots I left the battery in while using phantom power.

THANKS!! ???

Re: DVX100A 24PA audio sync issue

I have no idea what could have happened -- the 100 has a 2-frame audio-leading-the-video issue, but the 100A doesn't. The 100 has no audio echo/delay in the headphones, whereas the 100A does. So you're describing behavior that shouldn't be possible in one camera.

No idea on this one...

i captured dvx100a 24pa footage 1hr. straight into fcp 4.1 and didn't have any sync problems. is fcp set to 48khz?

Wait Barry the 100a has the echo in the headphones and the 100 does not? Just making sure because I am getting echoing in the headphones on my 100a...its delayed by 1/60th of a second or something....am I right? It syncs fine in FCP though...

Re: DVX100A 24PA audio sync issue

Yes, what you said is correct. There is no echo in the 100. There is echo in the 100A. The 100 has the 2-frame audio sync issue, the 100A does not. The two are linked: by delaying the audio 2 frames (so that it sync's properly on tape) that introduced the 2-frame audio echo in the headphones.

Those of us with the 100 don't have the echo, but we have to re-sync our audio in post.

Yes, FCP was set to 48khz. Acutally I believe it to be a FCP problem and not a camera problem. I screwed up and didn't check the original tape I shot on, oh, what do you know, its sync'd. Sorry. So I dumped my preferences in FCP and was going to recapture but mysteriously everything is sync'd. Well I think it orginally was, somehow I was getting a delay monitoring my sound from my capture camera. Which is bizzare because thats always how I do it. Anyway all fixed, I can relax, the camera is good.... ;D

Oh yeah, Thanks Barry, nice to know my echo is normal. Its very distracting, but I'll deal with it if it means sync'd audio.

Re: DVX100A 24PA audio sync issue

Even with the 100A I had a sync problem, but it was only when I used one input. Whenever both inputs were used there was no delays.
