If this question has been asked.. please direct me to the link, i couldnt find it.

But when using a Red Rock 35 MM adapter lense with a DVX100b, do you also need an anamorphic lense too, or is the 35mm adapter lense inherently anamorphic?

First, you can't have both Adapter and the Anamorphic lens.
If you plan to shot with an adapter then the only way to get widescreen properties is to shot letterbox or squeeze...

Thanks for the response. As i understand it then, the squeeze mode on the dvx100b is not as good of quality as something with native 16x9 like the Canon XL2, right? ..... If this is correct, then for film purposes , im not sure why i bought the dvx100b. I wish i would have looked into this more. If my statement is correct, which i suspect it is, then I would MUCH rather use a canon xl2 with a red rock 35mm adapter, than i would a dvx100 in sqeeze mode with that same adapter.

How about you?

Hi,

I have no problem with using the 4:3 mode. I film documentaries so it's not a big "must have" for me. But sure if you really want good 16:9 then I can't say that the DVX is the best cam. But the image that DVX gives I price more than the XL cams give.

Maybe you should settle with the DVX for now, and in a year or two you can upgrade to a HVX, which has a great native 16:9.

And there is a theatre movie here in Sweden that was shot simply bay a DVX in squeeze or letterbox and then brought to anamorphic mode. It looked great.

Hi Odell, before we bought this dvx100b , i too have been shooting with a dvx100 in 4x3 mode..except mine are short dramatic films. I was simply letterboxing the 4x3 footage in post. They look great on the big screen at home, even when zoomed in on to fit the whole 16x9 screen.

But i would like to do it in 16x9, because our resolution would be that much better especially since we want to do a feature and release it on dvd. 4x3 just doesnt cut it. I mean, i suppose we could do it. ... but if were not shooting hi def, i would at LEAST like to go 16x9.

I wish i would have listened to all those who said "wait and save" for the hvx200.

You get what you pay for, and theres no getting around it, is there?

So many great things have been made on the DVX despite it's lack of true 16:9. Don't get hung up on counting pixels. The image this camera renders is beautiful.

Thanks for the encouragement William. Tell me more cause im about to return my dvx100b .....
anyone know any links to films shot on the dvx100B (notice the B) shot in squeeze mode? I would like to see if there is that much difference between that and something like the Canon XL2 native 16x9 image.

search at imdb.com and you will find hundreds of movies shot with the DVX. Why does nobody use google or the search function of this forum before starting a thread???

Maniero, Umm.... why dont you READ my original post, if you did, you would see that i tried the searches and was unsuccessful, therefore was asking for some guidance..even perhaps to a thread that i missed during my search efforts. And a couple people have already given me some guidance, and i was simply continuing this thread as more questions came up ....

and im quite aware that hundreds of movies have been shot with the dvx. That is not the question..the question has evolved into an inquiry about the quality of a dvx image shot in squeeze mode with a 35mm adapter (like the red rock m2) as compared to something like a canon xl2 shot in native 16x9 with the same adapter.
