DVX100 vs. SDX900

Shooting a short INT and EXT, night and day.

Got the possibility of shooting with SDX900. Editing w. Final Cut Studio.

The plan was to shoot DVX but the SDX may be available (same rate) and was wondering if it's be the better cam to use.

Now if I go DVX, I've got an SLR lens adapter happening, that I know is NOT good-to-go with the SDX. But the SDX is 2/3 as supposed to DVX's 1/3. Also the DVX is 4:2:2 where as the SDX is 4:1:1.

Suggestions?

Also, if I go SDX I can't fly it on the steadicam. So if I go SDX and then shoot steadicam shots on the DVX (minus, or even with, the adapter), would it cut?

Thanks.

The SDX900 is absolutely the better choice. Dont get me wrong, the DVX is a great camera, but the SDX offers several significant features over the DVX, such as 2/3" chips over 1/3" (huge image difference) as well as many more manual features in terms of in-camera grading and gamma adjustments. If you can grab the SDX900, definitely do. I just used it on a short two weekends ago, and both the director and I were 100% satisfied with the results.

BTW- In regards to the steadicam question, yes, It could cut. Just be very careful when shooting the DVX footage and make sure you are doing everything you can within the camera to achieve the highest quality output.

Good luck!

Thanks Invision and Vampiresoup.

I was thinking the same, but what about the DVX with the cine lens adapater vs the SDX without the adapter?

I wonder if it is possible to mount the adapter on the SDX, or would the stock lens be a better choice?

Also, are the scene files of the 2 the same, meaning; if i set the SDX scene file and the DVX scene file to the same settings, will the image be the same, in terms of colour specifically? This is concern for shooting SDX and cutting with DVX steadicamed footage obviously.

How would I get the 'best' output from a non-Andromeda'ed DVX?

SDX Lens

Wait, a tick. The SDX features a bayonet lens mount. It should be interchangeable on it's own. Could I mount 35mm or 16mm primes to the SDX, provided that the lenses are bayonet mounts too?

Thanks.
