hi,

What is the difference in image quality (resolution and color rendition) between the DVX100 and the DVX100A ?

thanks

Re: .DVX100 vs DVX100A image quality

resolution is identical - color rendition has supposedly been improoved with a new prism and lense on the "a" + higher dsp bit rate. but for all practical purposes, i havent noticed any difference.

Re: .DVX100 vs DVX100A image quality

Loser, Do you think they could be used side by side on a shoot without having to do a lot of color corection in post? 8)

Re: .DVX100 vs DVX100A image quality

yes. without question. really to be safe you shoud run a quick test(to be sure your settings are matching), but as long as your using the relatively same settings (adjust master ped accordingly if your shooting in 7.5 setup to account for the setup change in the "a" model)

...the thing to watch out for in this circumstance is that the reg dvx100 model might get really grainy, because it is so old and rusty, and a big bolt would come out of it, and it would start to drip out some kind of grease, and then it would get really hot, and when the dp comes to check on it, it would start on fire, and essplode him up into the air. definitley. he would be essplodeded. and cry. the end.

Re: .DVX100 vs DVX100A image quality

you see no differences ???

so what about the new luma knee level for the cinelike gamma setting ?
what about the new prism ?

what about the new color circuitry ?

what about the new color setting in addiion to the normal, flou and cine matrix ?

I can't believe there is no difference.

With a controlled experiment and a very trained eye one might notice minute differences but it's the man behind the camera that will do the real magic.

Damn. I am the philosopher.

antoine..
you have to compare apples to apples here.
if you set one in the standard f1 scene file, and one in the standard f6 scene file. yes there will be a difference. but thats an apple to an orange. so with the same reasoning yes if you set one in a different matrix, or gamma setting your going to notice some differences. obviously the "a" model has some gamma and matrix settings that the reg dvx does not. now while these new settings may give a different look to the image, its nothing you couldnt do with the reg dvx in post (aside from the knee..you cant really add that. it needs to be present at aquisition) but based on the new lense-12 bit dsp-and prism . and any other sublte changes alone, given the same settings, the 2 cameras are going to give a virtually indistiguishable picture. i would highly highly doubt that anyone is going to be able to tell the difference let alone which one is from which cam. depsit how much you would like to believe that the "A" is so different from the reg dvx, its not. which is why panasonic didnt even change the model # cause its the same cam. just has some new little additions, and fixes.

I can finally afford a DVX100, but B&H charges a boatload for NYS tax. Any reputable online store recommendations that don't charge NYS tax?

Re: .DVX100 vs DVX100A image quality 100

Yes, but they only have the 100A. A few hundred bucks is make or break with me, as of now, which is how much the 100(not A) is.
