DVX100 The Next Generation

Hello DVX100 users,

Remember when you were doing all your research that led you to buying your DVX?
What if you were doing that research today, now that HD has come along and ruined (lol) everything? What would be your choice for the modern equivalent?

hmc150...couple hundred dollars more what a new dvx is selling for now. But when I bought my dvx100b it was selling for $2500 but i got a $250 rebate, really cool magic bullet Looks software ($399), instantHD ($99), and Barry Green's Book. I was looking at the dvx and the Canon xh A1 so at the time it was a great deal.

In ascending order of price:

HMC150 is a high-def DVX. HPX170 is an HMC150 with more features, including a true 16:9 SD DVX inside it. AF100 is an interchangeable-lens, shallow-DOF HPX170, but using low-cost recording media.

I would also say the HMC150, HPX170, or the HVX200 and if you want to go outside of Panasonic I would also say the PMW-EX3. All of these are battle tested field proven cameras (I think..) and what I would consider the DVX HD equivalents. (italics kicked on and I couldn't turn it off sorry)

I am very happy with my upgrade to several 200's and 170's. (I like the gain nobs on the 100 better then the 170 or 200) They are great cams and much less fuss then their tape hungry predecessor.

i've been shooting on 100A for 8 years, i got it brand new for 5g's ...i'm retiring it shortly and next will be most likely af100 or the update to af100

Some are pointing towards the Canon xf100. Does the CMOS chip make it too different from a dvx100 to consider it a true successor?

I look at the answer in a different way...Yes the HMC150 and the HPX170, HVX are all modern day equivalents to the DVX. But if you're looking for the spirit that the DVX brought to the table (the look and/or features of higher end cameras at a lower price), I believe the answer would be the AF100 or FS100. Back in it's day the DVX brought progressive scanning 24p and many other things unavailable in other cameras at the same price...they were only found in higher end models. So now if you look at it, the AF100 and FS100 bring large sensors, interchangeable lenses, overcranking/undercranking, and full image adjustments, on board audio, etc. all at a really good price.($4795 AF, around $5800 FS) The next camaras to offer ALL of these features start at the F3's $13,300 and skyrocket from there.
The AF100 and FS100 are in a league by themselves.(for right now)
