Sorry, I get carried away sometimes.

You are really sensitive to nature. The images you capture are really artistic and natural at the same time. I love it!

Who is this Anthony Phillips guy? His music is great. Does he have a website I could check out?

Salut Steven, I really liked the entry shot, very nice.

Hey Coltrain, some people can make beautiful images with ordinary places and some people in a beautiful environment, can't even have a good composition and lighting...so let's see what you can do instead of just giving your poor criticism.

Coltrain said:
I am not saying what he does is not nice looking.

But 90% of it is his location and the other 10% might be his abilities.

Simple photographic framing is not complicated.

Did you know we only use 10% of our brains?
And if 10% is what you are crediting his abilities at....
I'd say his 10% is pretty on the ball.
What do you do with your 10%?
I'd even go as far to say he might be using 10.1%
You see Coltrain "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know
what youre gonna get" Unless... You know everything about that box of chocolates
and I think Disjecta knows his chocolates well.
By the way when you step outside with your camera there are a million different variables and possibilities at your fingertips. I'd like to thank Disjecta for narrowing all those possibilities down to the most beautiful.
I'd love to see some of your "Simple photographic framing" I really would.
You can go ahead and throw some "Complicated framing" in there as well if you please.
Love always

Ok -- I admit, I was coltrain...

HA!

Anyway -- Coltrain... I've been trying to capture that area myself and can come only close enough that my wife, kids and mom enjoy.

I'm getting closer, but really...

If Steven Spielberg is such a great director, why would he want to use Janusz Kaminski on ALL of his films?

Hmmmm??

10% my butt.

BTW -- great coloring, Disjecta!!

How about doing the equivalent Coltrain? I'd like to see you produce something equal to what Disjecta created.

Could do and did do are totally different things. And it's easy to criticize when words are all you have...

"It's not what you could do that makes you who you are, but instead what you made with your life so far."

The point is that he made this really cool film snipets for us to enjoy, and you, really, what have you done?

At some level you are correct. We often jump on the disjecta bandwagon. He knows it too... I'm just waiting for the JOKE he posts with all the crappy pans... the handheld shot... etc. just to see if we all drool.

As this one DOESN'T have the 'depth' that some of his others do, there's STILL the eye of craft. The sound, the color space, the postcard shots, those DAMN Optical Disolves, the cross fade to similar imagry... ie the trees at the end.

Really -- I'm no indiFILM maker, but I try my best and STILL fall short...

He knows the camera
He knows the NLE
He knows the craft of what HE is trying to capture

I'd say everyone posting on this thread knows two of the three as well as he... but all three?

Yikes... don't trash Coltrain (Puppy et al), I like his sax playing!!

We all put up stuff that shows us with our pants down. We all take critical posts for their worth to US as posters and as readers.

BarryS hit it. Many of us walk around not smelling our own flowers and only wishing to smell those in the other fields.

There's a difference to being critical and being an asshole.

Jarred; dude that thing is like epilepsy central man. I love it:thumbsup: :cheesy:

Alright, time to get this conversation away from Coltrain's ego and back to Disjecta's latest creation. I like it, of course, how can you not like D's creations?:)

Now for some notes.

1. The first train shot bumps right at the end before you dissolve into the next shot. That little bump isn't a big deal, but it caught my eye and it's kind of like a little pimple in your work.

2. I like the Thomas the tank engine shot, it's kind of eerie, which is why I dig it.

3. Love that shot of the park benches in the woods. Real atmospheric.

4. Digging the slow tilt up the tree.

5. One thing I'm not digging as much is the music. I think it's a great piece of music, but because I've seen so much of your work the music feels expected. I think it would be really interesting to change the music. You mention David Lynch and Twin Peaks. How about some Lynchian music? Your framing and compositions would take on a much different resonance and meaning. For example the Thomas the tank engine shot would feel ominous instead of cute and benign. Play around with the music and see what meanings come from it.

6. You make it look so easy and effortless. People think it's easy to do what you do, but a lot of careful thought goes into each composition.

Thanks for posting D.

Damn it Isaac; didn't I say already 'Run this with the Twin Peaks theme!'

Oh sorry.

I love that train shot. Surreal almost.

Opps... :cheesy:

I was distracted by the Brouhaha.

I'm digging the piece, and I agree, with a different music piece it could really setup a mood. Especially that car driving on the bridge. It's like the beginning of a Steven King movie. Family drives to deserted hotel in the mountains.

Heeeeree's JOHNNY!

WTF? I leave you kids to run the house for a few hours and look what happens. That's the last time!

I'm in work right now so can't respond but I'm a little floored by the repsonses so far. :)

More later.
