i searched through many of the topics devoted to this issue, but i couldn't find a topic with a big enough sample size to make an informed decision.

i just need a brace to take some weight off when i'm doing shoots with the dvx100b (no other accessories on the camera). right now i'm looking at the spiderbrace2 and the cb105. i like the dual grip of t he spiderbrace but the test footage of the tracking shots with the cb105 seems convincing.

does anyone have PERSONAL experience with either of these mounts? i'd also be interested in similarly priced alternatives (ie not steadicam merlin)

I've used a Spiderbrace. Lots of fans of the CB105. I use a Zacuto shouldermount rig right now. Lots of people also use the Switronix shoulder mount. Do some searching on here... you'll find what you're looking for!

i still have mine. It's just PVC pipe with a mounting screw on it. For the DVX alone, it should be fine. I've never tried stressing mine, but I know they sure can take it. Search around for things about the CB105!

yeah i've read all that i can on both mounts but no one really says anything specific beyond that they "love it" anyone have any specific criticisms of either product?

is there anyone who uses the cb105 who have done fluid tracking shots like the ones in the demo video on ebay? it seems like this is the main advantage of the cb105 over the spiderbrace (because of the counterweight)

could you post links to where to buy and info on the cb105 and the spiderbrace2, I googled both of them and looked for them on ebay and couldn't find anything. I am also looking for a shoulder mount. I was looking at the MultiRig Pro.

I really wish we could all search around here! Maybe someone needs to make a DVX search engine for searching the forums!... Google (DVXUser)

someone pointed out that because spiderbrace requires the use of two hands, one cannot operate the zoom/focus without having to let go of one grip and this can be cumbersome

meanwhile, t he cb105 allows the hands to be in regular operation placement. does anyone find this to be an issue with the spiderbrace?

With a camera as light as a dvx, it's not that big of a deal. I've been using a spider brace for a while now and I just hold one end with my one hand and operate the camera with my other. I could see it getting taxing for really long shots but in my case I can just stick it on a tripod if that's an issue. I don't think you'd want to run around with it on long tracking shots or anything.

That said, it's just bent pvc (as mentioned) and is kind of ghetto for the price. It works but I've already broken mine and had to repair it. I shoot a lot of mountain biking and skiing so I'm carrying it around on a pack most of the time and it's a little fragile for that purpose.

I'm thinking about building my own version out of some aluminum tube stock.

Never used the cb105

The solution is the DV RigPro.
Your back with thank you.
Your shoulder and hips take the weight.
It's not a steadicam, and it's not a tripod.
But you will learn to love it.
