dvx100 questions

ok, well, i searched around and read the manual and found some stuff, but nothing that really answered my questions directly. Alright, im thinking about getting a dvx100 real soon, and was wondering...

1) Does 24p footy come out real bad when you mix it with regular 60i footy, does it convert the 24p footy to 60i causing it to be real choppy because i dont believe that editing programs, when exxporting will recognize different formats when exporting the timeline including the 60i and 24p footage.together?(if that makes sense) any suggestions for this or ideas, or any other useful info that i would need or want to know?

2) what exactly is 24p advanced? is it better to shoot this when mixing with 60i, etc.?

3) what exactly is chromo level and chroma phase? what exactly do they do, in simpler terms, what exactly is chroma? basically is it the contrast shift or something? Any tips or information for using these?

4) I've used the dvx many times, but can't seem to get a deep contrast in the image without post correction, even when ive used the cine-like gamma and matrix settings i still cant get a deeper contrast out of the image. Any tips and suggestions would be great.

5) i read the manual and couldn't find anything on this, is there any built in optical or digital image stabilizer on the dvx100???

6) What are the best settings for shooting in low light, I would be shooting mostly skateboarding, but can still use a slower shutter speed.

Any other suggestions and tips for any other settings or parts of the dvx that tie into my questions would be great too, also any settings that most people don't know about would be good too, or anything that i may need to know, considering i am just here to learn, and be prepared for the dvx... please post only helpful comments. Thank you.

I'll answer you the only things I know something about.

Chroma level is the amount of color you want to get, the colour saturation.

I think you may get more contrast if you play with the master pedestal option (the lower the number the most contrast) and of course, the lighting is very important.

The camera has an optical image stabilizer.

You shoudl buy barry's book. It's great it pretty much is a good how to /what does this do book on the DVX. I'm not sure in regards to the 24p and using it with 60i but it's been covered on the forum somewhere I just can't remember

60i and 24p togther look fine, you can tell whats what tho and the 24 kicks 60i ass when toghter so thats good. Cuz it spices up your footage.

now, editing the two formants is easy in pro 1.0 but not 1.5 and i'm not sure about 2.0 yet

All footy is recorded onto DV tape as 60 interlaced fields. Later pulldown is assumed for each frame rate. Shoot 24p if you use it in a 60i timeline. Shoot 24pa if you want to extract all frames without decompression that occurs in 24p. (in all, 24pa not to be edited in a 60i timeline) Chroma is saturation-intensity. Chroma phase guides chroma towards either magenta(purple) or green. To capture more contrast be concerned with lighting. There is an OIS button on the side by the lcd. Be careful using it, it can leave nasty quivering marks on all of your frames. For skateboarding, get a wider lens, shoot 30p.

Q1 and Q2

You edit on a 60i timeline and no problem. Shoot footage in 24p as Dimitri suggested.

Regardless of lighting use master ped to achieve the level you want in your image.

Its called OIS on the DVX

The BEST setting for shooting low light on the DVX is 60i. Although if you want something more stylised try 24p with 1/48 shutter speed. You can also use 1/24, personally I dont like the look so much though compared to 1/48. Or try the middle ground and shoot in 30p.

Other suggestion: search the forum for scene file settings, often people post grabs or clips, if you see something you like ask them the settings they used and conditions it was shot under.

Finally use the DVX like an insane person as much as you can, mess with the scene file settings, get something you like and note the settings or just save it.

wow, thanks everyone, you've answered my questions very good. Im open to any other suggestions obviously, but thanks.
