I haven't seen any comments on this feature on the forum. I'm purchasing a wired lav with the assumption that it can draw on the phantom power from the cam. Can anyone comment on how well the phantom supply works? I assume it should work fine but I ask because I haven't heard anything either way, and want to be sure my mic will function properly before I buy it. Also, how much of a battery drain are mics? Does it make a noticable difference in the camera's battery life?

Re: DVX100 Phantom Power

Well, I can't tell you TOO much, but I've tested the camera briefly with a pair of small condensers (Oktava MK12s). It worked fine...
haven't tried with any of my mics which are more sensitive to phantom power (that is, with some mics you can hear some difference between different phantom supplies, some of which deliver different current than claimed).

Re: DVX100 Phantom Power

Since youre on the phantom power subject, it's kinda random, and not that you would use one with the DVX, but don't ever send phantom power to a ribbon mic. KAPOW!

random thought of the day #1 :)

Re: DVX100 Phantom Power

I'm using a shure sm-81 and the phantom power from the camera with no problems. It doesn't seem to be a big draw on the battery either.
