hey guys im new to the forums and to dvx100's in general.
i wanted to start shooting short films without having to go and rent a gl2 from unc-chapel hill across town, so i decided to get a dvx100. why? well i wanna shoot in 24p.

quistions:

1. the canon gl2 is usually much cheaper than the dvx, but cant shoot in 24p. is this the main reason why the dvx is better?

2.
hey guys, i found a camera from a local person
dvx100 with about 300 hours
i can get it for 1700
no box, but has batteries
is this a good price? also what kinds of flaws should i expect from a dvx100 with 300 hours?

3. how bad is the noise from the dvx100? is it enought to ruin a shot?

4. is the price difference from the dvx100 and dvx100B really worth it?

hopefully ill find a good used dvx100 for 1600-1800 soon...

THANKS

The DVX isn't better than the gl2 because of "Frame rate"...the DVX is a lot better, if youre into making short films. The DVX offers a bit nicer quality, and picture all together. The on board sound is better, but you should get an external mic (shotgun).
Get the dvx100b, I don't think you can get the classic anymore.

I would not get a 100. I would jump all over a 100A because they will be a fair bit cheaper then the 100B at no real loss to you. The 100B adds a few creature comforts but nothing one cannot live without.

You will notice a marked jump in picture quality with the DVX over a GL2. There are many more controls on the camera and it is certainly a pro piece of kit. 24p is a joy to work with and you will love it. 300 hours on the heads is nothing as long as the camera is in good shape.

I am assuming you are talking about video noise? In that case, no. The DVX will produce stunning pictures in a lit environment. Take it into a room with 1 60w bulb and it will struggle (as will any camera).

i would love to get a good used dvx100a but my budget is under 1800, and i just cant find any deals like that.
i found a dvx100 with 300 hours for 1700. (no box) - is this worth it?

William_Robinette, dude i saw your videos on your site and i must say that they all look amazing. were they all shot on the dvx100a? seeing that you use AE7, im guessing there was alot of post-production color correction?

Thank you,

All on my 100A and color graded in Vegas. I don't use AE for coloring so much as sky replacement and specific lighting effects if need be. I need to update my site anyways.
