DVX100 Noise

I was looking at pictures (nightime) shot on an XL 2 and a DVX100a. The DVX100a had more detail in the blacks but there was a lot of noise. The XL2 had no detail in the blacks, but the blacks were just that, black.

Tell me if I am crazy here guys, but wouldn't you prefer the XL2 in this instance? When I try to play with footage in post that has a lot of noise it looks a lot worse than if there was no noise with no detail.

Thoughts please?

Also has the 100B improved in noise compared to the 100A?

Thanks!

Yes, 100B has a bit less noise than the 100A, particularly in the blue channel of video.

Whatever I was shooting, I would properly light/expose for the dark areas and then dial them down in post to squash the noise. You NEVER want to add gain to an under-exposed part of the image. You will just be emphasizing the noise already present.
