DVX100 Mic Suggestion

There's no one mic that's going to be "best." Different microphones are good for different things. Some mics are good indoors. Some mics are good outdoors. Some mics are just not appropriate for particular purposes, like dialogue recording. If you're going to be doing a variety of things, you're going to need a variety of mics if you want the best sound you can get.

"Cheap" is never going to get you "best," though there are lower-cost mics which will produce a good sound considering what you pay for them. Not the best sound you can get, but good sound for the money.

So, what do you want to do, and how much do you want to pay?

have you searched the forum?

go ahead the search it because this has been asked many times.
soon you will notice a lot of people use the Rode NTG1 or 2 here.
I've got the NTG2 and I love it.

I use the Audio Technica AT897. Same price as the Rode NTG-2, but I found the range to be further on the Audio Technica and the lo-cut filter to be more effective. This is based on a side-by-side comparison I conducted last month testing someone speaking outdoors at different distances, and an outdoor concert (The Audio Technica had more bass). They were both into my DVX simultaneously.

i agree with the first, guy, have the same mic as the second guy, and the third guy has a legit reason to get the AT mic. i think it's personal preference and depends on what you need it for. just make sure you keep the receipts if you aren't a fan of whatever you end up purchasing. :)

I have been waiting for the money to get this package http://www.dvcreators.net/rode-ntg-2/

Someone suggested that to me last year sometime and I just haven't had the money to spare, but I am thinking about getting it soon. Not sure how much you wanna spend but this could be a good investment for you.

If you order the panasonic mic that 'comes with the camera if you buy it with external mic' (AG-MC200G) costs about $440. That is twice the prize you pay for the RODE, the Azden, the AKG or the Audio Technica in what I guess would be your catagory (those are around $200). You can buy a (not very good but better than the onboard mic) Azden SMX-10 for about a hundred dollars.

All depends on what you are willing or able to pay and of course -like they said- what you are going to do with it.

DVX100 Shotgun Mic

DVX100 Shotgun Mic

I have the DVX 100a and I use the Sennheiser ME80. It is a two piece shotgun mic that was replaced by the ME66. It is incredibly tough, (having shot broadcast ENG news with it) and I picked it up on EBAY for $125. It runs a 5.6 volt battery (which is a drag, but I get replacement batteries at Interstate Battery Retail Store) or can run phantom power off the camera.

It has three rolloff switches and is REALLY sensitive. I have shot several commercials with it and it is a fabulous mic.

Attached is a picture of my rig.

DVX100 Mic questions

DVX100 Mic questions

I was shooting a cheerleading competition in Denver.
I was about 75 feet from the main stage to the side of the judges stand.

The mic is mounted on the camera via a SONY DXC microphone mount that can pivot and rotation and is made out of high strength aluminum. I used a piece of plate aluminium and fashioned a mounting plate that matches the factory screw holes for the mic.

This microphone can pick up a clear sound at 15 feet and cut out all other surrounding noise.

I also borrow a pair of G2 wireless Sennheisers from my school. AWESOME!!!! Great sound quality and they come in very handy for documentaries...
