Your 300b power capsule is a power base unit for the "blue line" series modular microphone system. The 300b accepts a variety of capsules or "heads". The 300b requires phantom power.

The CK91 is a general purpose cardioid cap with a uniform front-to-back ratio.

Other caps available include:

CK92 - Omnidirectional

CK93 - Hypercardioid - excellent interior dialogue mic

CK94 - Figure eight pattern

CK97-O Miniature omnidirectional suitable for plant, lav and musical instrument work

CK97-C Cardioid pattern version of the 97

CK-98 Short Shotgun capsule

There are numerous other accessories, including the MK90/3 + H98 cable set which allow the capsule head and 300b to be separated.

For more info there are numerous references in the audio forum archives.

Congratulations on your new camera ! Must post clips.

This will be a good general purpose mic for use with your camera. For best results, you'll want to dress it - a shock mount and wind protection, probably a boom pole of some type. The K-tek ssm mount and Rycote BBG (baby ball gag) miniature zepp work very well with this mic.

This is a "medium" quality microphone capable of very good quality audio in the right hands. Waaay ahead of your on-board camera mic.

You should turn it off whenever connecting-disconnecting the capsule or cables. You'll probably also want to switch on the 100khz filter switch on the se300 body (you can just leave this on). Microphones are precision instruments, you'll want to protect from rough handling. Your "old" mic is still in general use with a street price in the $500 range.

STRONGLY encourage you to spend some time over in the Audio Forum - start with the stickies (yellow colored threads at the top). Wade through these and you'll be well on your way to understanding what it takes dealing with the whole audio aspect of good filmmaking.

Best wishes

if you are using it indoors you don't need anything special.....do you? (unless you get the shockgun mic)
