Hi I was just wondering if there's already a thread dedicated to this discussion. I've heard about this hack but am having difficulty finding out if it's legit or not. Any info is much appreciated, thanks.

It's legit, as in, it works beautifully (if you do your research and practice), but it does void your warranty.

Also, it's 4:4:4 10-bit color-space. Sexy, I know.

so is there any reason why you shouldn't do this if you dont care about the voided warranty, and have the money to do it?

i guess im asking... is there any downsides to this. I've done some research but its hard to get really specific details of its pros and cons.

being from the point of view, that im not a huge tech freak, but want to know if i can do this and have it be respectively easy to get results.

Well, the system really does appeal to "tech freaks," simply because it involves a lot of pre-reading and knowhow when dealing with the system's workflow.

Really, I don't think it's incredibly easy to get "result." I've seen some SPECTACULAR andromeda footage, but it probably takes a lot of practice/trial and error.

I think if you commit to it, can afford it (for whatever project you're doing), want a lot of color correction in post, and don't mind a couple mind-splitting headaches at first, it ends up being very much so worth it.

There are a lot of good, informative threads on the andromeda here, gotta search around a bit

I suppose I should probably throw in a response here...

I own the Andromeda system and have used it quite a lot in the last few months. Its an awesome system, but to be perfectly honest, its more for advanced users, or people who feel its time to make a leap up to a new level of performance. The system really taught me quite a lot about video in general that I never knew about. When you start calling all the shots, it really opens your eyes, you'll never view cameras the same. I see HDV cameras in a new and different light (I don't like the HDV format, but I have a different opinion about the cameras themselves now).

The reason behind Andromeda never really catching on, in my opinion, has a lot to do with the fact that when it first came out, the people buying the mod really weren't people who were ready for it. As a result, a lot of the earliest footage didn't look good, and before you know it, the systems interest started to die down, till recently at least. Think of it this way, it was like putting a bunch of first year drivers behind the wheel of a Ferrari sports car in a major race, they probably won't finish too high up in the rankings.
