dvx100 audio dropout

My DVX100 is recording choppy audio(audio cuts out every half second or so then returns then cuts out) I have cleaned the heads on the drum three times now but the problem remains. Is the audio track recorded on the drum heads or is that just video? Are their separate audio heads I need to clean?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure it's all recorded digitally on the same track. If your video is coming through OK, then it probably isn't the tape recording mechanism.

Course I could be wrong...

Thank for the reply...I cleaned everything I could see in the tape transport area and the problem seems to have gone away. I also called two local video companies and was told by one it records on the same heads as video, the other told me there are separate record heads for audio. Nobody seems to be able to say with any certainty just where the DVX100 does its audio recording. I still can't get Vegas seven to print to tape without the dropouts but Vegas 6 and premiere handle the job flawlessly. So I cured most of the issues without knowing quite how I did it which makes me nervous about the longevity of the fix! Thanks again
