DVX100 as "B-Cam"

Hey,

I have an HMC150 and will be producing a series of ski webisodes this winter. In order to get the production quality to the level I am aiming for, I'm going to need a B-Cam for follow cams and wide angle shots.. I've seen some great results with the DVX when exported to 720p which is really drawing me toward using this as a second camera.

My question to you is... Should I get a consumer HD cam like the SD9 or Canon's new AVCHD offerings which would be the same workflow and have more resolution to mix with my HMC footage? Or a DVX where I'll have the same manual controls, interface and that "panny look" I've grown to love with my HMC?

With the fact that I will be mainly delivering these webisodes in SD over the internet on my site and flash based sites, which option should I go with? I'm pretty torn here.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks.

If SD, the dvx is a great choice.. But why not another HMC150? Then you could easily match color, gamma, and resolution. They are about the same price range, not much more than the DVX.

Trust me, another HMC/used HVX would be amazing, I just don't have that much money. I've been seeing used DVX's going for around 1100 dollars. That's a 2000 dollar price difference from the HMC

Well you would probably be better off with a DVX, since you can change the color settings to match better, but the DVX would most likely be a little more depending on which consumer cam you got. If you were to use the DVX for wide angle shots, fisheye or wide lenses are much more for 72mm vs 52mm or smaller unless you already have one.

And if you shoot squeeze on the DVX, it will look almost the same as the HMC if you export right.

You can also try InstantHD Advanced on the DVX to upscale it to HD. Worth a try... worst case you don't like the way it looks you still have your SD material.
