DVX100 and HDV

You just need to letterbox or somehow make your SD 16:9 aspect ratio. Most popular programs (FCP, FCE, Premiere, Vegas etc...) you can do this. Actually, now that I remember, you can mix aspect ratios in the new versions of FCP and Premiere, but it looks better if they're both the same pixel ratio.

For the most part, they'll never be the same pixel aspect ratio no matter what you do. But that doesn't matter.

But as you mention it, there WILL be a slight difference between HD and 16:9 SD; the SD will be slightly wider. The SD will have to be cropped on the sides to fill an HD frame, or the HD will have to be cropped on the top/bottom to fill an HD frame. (Or, you can zoonm in slightly.) Otherwise, you'll have narrow black bands somewhere.

Yes I believe SD is 1440x1080 and then of course HD is 1920x1080. You can take your SD shots and crop them in so they fill the widescreen frame. Or, if you originally shot in 4:3 and you want to keep all the resolution, you could take a creative approach and crop it so it fills the frame, then on top of that you put the original 4:3 image. On the cropped layer you put a blur filter or something like that on it. It looks sorta cool.
