Hi all,

I have a question about the zoom ring on the camera. Mine has a slight amount of play on it. Is this correct or should it be tighter?

When I have it set to motorized zoom it is ok, but when in manual I have to be very careful as it jumps a little when you start the zoom.

The camera is only a couple of weeks old and was like this when I bought it.

What do you think?

Re: DVX zoom

Hmm, I'm not near my camera right now, so I can't check, but if I remember correctly it does have a bit of give....but I haven't had it ruin anything I've done...

hmm...

Re: DVX zoom

My DVX (the original, not the A) has a similar slight play in the zoom. I believe it's a "feature" common to the camera. :)

Re: DVX zoom

Mine is very touchy also. I'm pretty sure your not supposed to turn the zoom ring while it's in auto mode.

Re: DVX zoom

..yeah.. thats a bad thing. the play is normal. but trying to turn it in auto mode.. is crazy..like this! :o

Re: DVX zoom

The zoom ring on my 100A has no play at all, it's very smooth from start to finish.

Trying to move the zoom ring manually when it's set to auto will likely damage the delicate gears and/or the servo motor.

Re: DVX zoom

this too-easy zoom ring ruined couple of shots for me, as my little finger was hitting this pin by mistake. so i took off the little pin (after i found it can be screwed for safety somewhere else on the camera!) since then all is fine. and i even find that my manual zooms are better without this pin, as i have to hold the ring with two fingers, giving 'contra' from both sides.
i actually learned to use manual zooms good enough to even integrate them into my shots.. :)
servo-zoom (at least in dvx100) is still yaky :(

Re: DVX zoom

The DVX100A stiffened up the friction on the zoom ring, to make for easier/smoother manual zooms. It's not a dramatic difference, but it does make a difference, and smoother manual zooms are a bit easier on the DVX100A.

Re: DVX zoom

Thanks a lot guys. Makes me feel a little better now knowing that Im not the only one who is having this problem.
