dvx wont recognize footage in vcr mode---HELP

when i attempt to play back footage on my dvx100b I get that asterisk...for sure the tape has content on it, and the dvx reads the time code when the camera is paused/stopped, but as soon as i push play the asterisk appears and no image appears in the lcd screen....


this has never happened before...


and ideas?

we have done some searching around for answers, with no luck
 
ok, we cleaned the heads, with a tape cleaner, and now we have an image again...which reminds us that about a week ago we got that icon that indicates dirty cylinder.and at that time we also ran the tape cleaner...so our big picture question is: does this mean we should get it cleaned by a pro, is the tape cleaner's losing its abilities...

btw , the hours on the cam reads 672.....
 
Yes! Definitely get the tape heads professionally cleaned! The tape head cleaners just scrape off the dirt but they can actually do a little damage so definitely get them cleaned at a shop!

I read on a sticky for this forum that $100 was the going rate,,,it that accurate?
