DVX w/ 35mm adaptor or Camera w/ Interchangable Lens?

Hello all, I am in the market for a camera to make short films, and one day feature length films. I want to get a look as close to film as possible, and I have heard nothing but good things about the DVX100, so I was planning on buying a DVX100B, saving up some more money, and then purchase a 35mm adaptor. To achieve the film look I desire, I am certain I will need to utilize some various lenses. So now I am trying to decide whether to get a camera with the capability to change lenses already, or get the DVX along with an adaptor like the Letus Extreme or SGblade. I would appreciate your opinions, and if you lean toward a camera with interchangable lenses, which one would you recommend? Please keep in mind I am trying to keep my costs down as low as possible while still achieving the look that I want.

check out the panasonic gh1. loads of info on this site

This camera looks great, but I'm really looking for more of a prosumer camcorder-type video camera, and the GH-1 doesn't have all of the features that I want/need (ie XLR inputs). Really, the DVX100B has everything I want in a camera, just not the interchangable lenses. Thats why I wanted to get some other opinions about whether I should get it and get a Letus Extreme or something, or just get one of the Canon's or JVC's or something along those lines. I'm also trying to keep this all within a reasonable price range.

Ha JJ, I have the Letus right now using it on a DVX100a and the one thing I'm dealing with is learning it... I guess I haven't shot enough footage to even give my input but from what I learned is, it requires a lot of light.

The video camera has yet to be released, and will cost €6.950 (about $9,818.96), but I don't see why they wouldn't ship stateside.

Get a used dvx, a M2e with flip, and some used lenses...you won't regret it.

The lenses can do double duty to if you ever want to do still photography.

make sure to do a little research into the lenses....don't just buy any old crappy lens...and buy used, and older....they don't make em' like they used to...really.

Buy prime lenses...not zooms. Well buy one zoom, but only for shots where you want to zoom in, do some kung-fu zoom, do that whole move the camera towards or away from subject and zoom in/out, and stuff like that.....for the most part depend on a wide, normal, long, and longer prime lenses.

buy manual lenses as well....not fancy schmancy ultra expensive things.....you won't be able to use all the crazy functions on a M2 anyway.

You just can't beat the DOF of a 35mm.......you can't get it from a interchangable lens camera....only with 35mm(well the Red sensor is big enough for good DOF, but within your price range go with a 35mm adapter).

Personally I have an HVX-200 with an older M2 and a couple lenses so far, and I'm as happy as punch with it.

One thing to consider though, is that although alot of people ThInK they want that shallow depth of field, it can be a pain to work with....the wide DOF of video spoils us and makes us not have to set focus quite as much. With shallow DOF comes alot of needs for planning shots, watching focus very closely, and perhaps using a follow focus....and maybe even having an assistant to handle focus.

You just can't beat the look of the DVX. If you wanted to future-proof yourself, you could go with something like a EX1 or a Sony Z7U. They are more expensive, but both those have interchangeable lenses, and then you could get an adaptamax ring to mount a 35mm lens. But on my budget and probably yours, I can't afford either of those, so DVX100B with a M2e flip will be great. There are whole kits by RedRock that have everything you need: The M2e, follow focus, and base plate system. Probably around $1400.

Well I got this on a DVX100B with no 35mm adapter or anything. Its soft on her face because I hit the still image with a skin smoother in photoshop.
