DVX used in a House Music Video

Hello, this is the new music video called JUST SCREW for the dubtone records label in Japan. It was shot with two DVX100Bs and directed by Zak B and Minha Kim. The music was produced by Zak B as well. The location was Osaka, Japan and the dancers, C4 and Trefoil are professional b-boys and b-girls.

I know this video is a little different from the music videos which are posted in this group because it is House music, not Hiphop or Rock n' Roll. If you don't know anything about House music, you might not appreciate it.

The quality of the video on the dubtone website is not as good as the master video and it's a little darker. But I hope you will still enjoy it. Thank you for your time.

As Paris would say, "That's Hot". The vid goes with the music nicely. The crews you got have mad skilz. I think if you want to make this video look super good you might want to see if you can find an after effects person to do some light trail fx. I think in general the only bad thing I have to say is the image was almost too clean and had more of a videoish feeling to it than film. If I were you I would cut out the battle at the end entirely and ramp some of the better moves to slow motion to fill the space. Great camera work. I might tinker with it to see if I can spruce it up if you don't mind.

Overall I think the concept of the video is a good idea. Two crews emerge in a city and battle it out. I think that it lacks somewhat of an arc or a reason why they are battling. Bboying for the hell of it is cool, but I wish I knew who won. "why do I care that they are dancing?"

I thought that some of the shots were really great and you captured the dancing very well. Others looked like you shot in 4x3 and cropped 16x9 and it didn't work out so well.

I think that the "breakdown" where the letterbox fades away is appropriately placed in the song but it makes it feel a little cheap to me.

It was probably shot on a budget so you might not have had access to great lights but the lighting is pretty flat. For dance videos I need a completely unmotivated backlight at all times.

The angles got a little repetitive and I think that adding a dolly move would have helped. Also more dynamic even handheld shots that broke up the frame wold make it more interesting. Some sort of B-roll stuff.

This makes me want to shoot some bboys for my next video. Keep up the good work.

Peace.
