DVX Underwater wanna go MACRO

So right now I'm shooting with my 100 underwater with a Century Optics W/A Adapter in an Equinox housing with a custom W/A front port. Here's a short vid of my first trip with the rig: http://www.oocpromotions.com/thethi...With Titling-Hawaii Diving 2008-H.264 LAN.mov

Now I want to move into the macro world. What's a good Macro adapter to use? What's the minimum and maximum focal distance? How do they work, are they magnifiers or zoom through adapters?

Thanks for the help!

Billy

Which 100 do you have? 'Cause the 100A and 100B lenses are both capable of macro photography. Nice looking stuff by the way! Might wanna fix your pulldown though, 'cause I saw a bunch of interlace artifacts.

I' using an old school DVX100, before the a or b. I shot in 24p(not advanced) mode and captured at 29.97. I think what you're seeing is a FCP smoothcam side effect., unless those are the wrong settings.

Thanks! Billy

wow smooth . tried mounting housing on a underwater scooter? i like the movement but it is tough keeping it steady while swimming fast. this looks like scooter footage.

Thanks! No scooter used on this dive, I've gotta get my doubles ready before I can buy a real scooter.

So any ideas for a macro setup?

looking for underwater housing for DVX100b

Hi,
I'm looking for an underwater housing for DVX100b. Anyone selling one or any suggestions. They seem to be out of production by Ikelite, Gates doesn't make them and Equinox doesn't list DVX100b!
Help!

To my knowledge Ikelite never manufactured one. It blows me away how the most popular Pro-Sumer camera in the world has only 1 option for an u/w housing. Equinox is the only manufacturer that I know of that is making one.

Call Equinox and talk to Sam Gates. Tell him Billy in Los Angeles (Empty V) from scubaboard sent you. 269.381.1901

If you want you can see how I modified mine here: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/underwater-videography/214255-new-housing-mods.html I'm about to put a higher resolution LED Backlit LCD and might be willing to part with my old one if you get a housing.

Now how about that macro topic? LOL

I have a question: I have a DVX100 and the equinox housing as well. My goal is to get a shot underwater of rowing sculls leaving the start line in a lake. The problem is the lake has gators and water moccasins and i'm more scared of the snakes than the gators. My thought was to attach the equinox housing to a boom (sort of like a Jib) that protrudes underwater and has a remote video link to the surface. We are only talking about 5ft under water or so. Anyone have any thoughts? am I nuts?

This is totally doable, if you could create some sort of mounting system that would utilize the holes on the wings used by the pistol grips then you're be set. I'd say stability and hydro-dynamics are your biggest obstacles. Using a 2-point mounting system would probably be the way to go because it will allow you to aim the lens more accurately and provide for better stability.

I've shot in the water with gators. Just have a couple of reliable men with sticks by your side. Also try shooting in winter. The Gators are way slower! Your biggest issue is going to be water clarity.

Winter will probably be the best time to shoot anyways. The spring the races count too much and the coaches and refs won't be as accommodating. Water clarity - good point. Underwater lighting or would that just make it worse?

Great at least I'm not nuts. I'll go off and think of something and let you guys know what I come up with.

Hi Billy,

actually, I use close-up lens X4 (Marumi MC +4) and no real macro lens. The results are relatively good, but you must use lens very reasonable.

In the full zoom mode (tele) works best at a distance of ~ 28 cm, where the object is the size of 1cm across the whole screen (very sharp). Otherwise, you get a little chromatic aberrations and the edges are somewhat blurred. Lens is cheap and occasionally useful. It si only close-up lens, not macro.

Can you tell me which WA adapter you use 0.6 or 0.7?

Hey Billy,

I've tried to see your shots with both internet exlorer 6 and the latest mozilla fire fox incarnation and both wind up crashing before I actually see any footage. Not sure what the problem is.
