Anyone seen this from company called "Reel Stream"? They were at the NAB and claim they can uncompress you DVX and make it HD with a 4:4:4 compression. Go here http://www.reel-stream.com they have sample footage on the site. WOW! interesting.

Yes. This has been discussed a lot here. They are working on a similar mod for the HVX as well, called HYDRA. They are also a sponsor here.

This I dont quite understand.
Are we saying the DVX100b is capable of HD output, but is presently being compressed by some internal codec?
Or....is this mentioned software, "adding" digital information to make it appear as HD video.

Thanks,
Jeff

Well. In order for the information of the 3CCD's in are camera to make it to tape it has to be compressed to 20:1 before it makes it to tape. Reel Stream by passes the compression chip and outputs so the image does not get compressed.

Reel Stream is taking advantage of the spatial offset of the DVX's CCDs to deliver a true high-definition image.

The DVX's internal processing was never intended to be high-def. Reel-Stream's Andromeda bypasses all internal processing. It samples the chips into a high-def matrix and does all image processing in the computer, not in-camera.

Search for discussions about "Andromeda", we've had several members here get the modification done. I think the modification is around $2,000 to $2500, but you can check the latest info on their site at www.reel-stream.com, and they also have a forum there where people discuss their successes and experiences with it.

I have an Andromeda, flat out amazing performance for the buck. I'm shooting a pilot show for PBS with the system in September, and several commercials for a network based in based in Baltimore. For a killer green screen promo, go the RAW HD section of my site, or just surf my posts in the DVX footage section here.
