ok, so i'm shooting a car scene from a film I am making. It is of two characters talking, the only problem is, the camera picks up every sound all around, and all i really want is it to pick up the sound of the characters, is there anything and can do to achieve this?

andyman,

I could suggest a quieter location but you've probably thought of that. Are you using the onboard mics? How about lav mics that are taped to the roof of the car? Or a shotgun mic?

Cheers,

John

You could loop it- Read Robert Rodriguez's "Rebel Without a Crew"- Inspirational for filmmaking on little or no budget. Recommended to me recently by my mentor- its a great read.

He just had his actors record their dialog after the fact using cutaways and parallel editing to cover sections that didnt match the actors lips.

You could record the dialog clean, and record the sounds of the car and environment without dialog, and mix down your own scene.

I agree with LightMast. You may want to take the car to a quiet location have your actors sit in it and get the cam mic as close to them as possible and have them re record the lines just for the audio. then go drive around with the cam running in the car and record the ambient sounds for the mix.
