DVX Sitcom!!

Hi everyone!

Check this out. I am a part of a team of filmmakers that make a 30 weekly sitcom called "Birnkrant 616" that airs on Trojan Vision, channel 8, in Downtown LA. You can also check it out online at www.trojanvision.com/media.

The show is filmed guerrilla stile with a DVX100A, the smallest lighting kit imaginable, and a crew of about 4 for every given shooting day.

It is a fun comedy about college students who live next to a group of Nazis that are constantly trying to take over the world.

Enjoy!

Oh and by the way...The first episode was shot almost a year and a half ago as a "pilot" episode. They get better, in quality and content, after that. So do not be discouraged if you only watch the first one.

Very cool, I just watched episode 1. I'll have to check out the later episodes when I have more time!

Thank you! And please do! They get better later on. In the third episode, my character, Roger, dresses up like a woman to get in a frat party. You can't get much better than that! lol.

I kind of don't get it, I guess. But here's my 2 cents:

I didn't really think it was funny, mainly because I didn't find the writing or performances all that great. I think it would really benefit from taking more time to map out the shots, storyboard, etc. It doesn't seem like you guys are using filmmaking to make it funny, but rather just depending on the actors to be funny when you point the camera at them. And I don't think the actors are funny enough for that. Also, I think it would benefit from really tightening up the scripts. Take a lot of time to really cut them to the bone and get rid of all the fat. Find the specific points where the gags happen and sharpen those points. Right now, the gags kind of languidly drift in and out of the episodes without really punching me in the gut.

I'm always open to a good talk on what makes comedy work, so take it as that...

However, I'm not one to criticize without putting myself on the chopping-block, so feel free to go to this thread:

and comment on my shorts as well.

Thank you. I really appreciate your comments, and I will pass them on to my fellow filmmakers and we will take them into consideration.

One of the main problems we've had during filming is scheduling, since we are all taking classes, so a lot of filming has been rushed. We haven't been able to take time to perfect shots or storyboard everything. Which is really unfortunate. Also, coming up with episodes every week has been a MUCH bigger challenge than we first had expected. Especially with all the scheduling problems be had.

I do agree with you about some of the writing. And I will pass on your suggestions to the writers.

I look forward to seeing your films!

Thanks again.

Awesome. Creative, original, funny as hell. With TV gradually being replaced by online streaming content, IP broadcasting, and the like, could this be a glimpse of things to come? I was thinking that this business template could be repeated across the country in countless micro-markets. Nice job guys...I think it's cutting-edge stuff...reminds me of those old BBC comedies.

Thank you very much! I do think it might be the beginnings of a new means of entertainment. There's already downloadable shows on the computer/ipod/phone. Who knows what's next? It should be interesting! I am really glad you liked the sitcom! Thanks for watching!

I tried watching episode, six. The sound needs some work, unless my headphones are screwed(which may very well be) and the compression was really bad and made it hard to pay attention.

I'll give it another go in a few days and have some better feedback.
