DVX shorts screened on UK TV

Here are a couple of shorts i shot on a DVX100e that have both been screened on UK television. I didn't know too much about the camera when i made these so it is pretty much the 25p factory settings, although towards the end i was figuring out how to make more advance manual adjustments to the picture.

The first one called Standing Down is only 3 minutes long, and probably the more successful of the two.

The second called The Right Impression is 11 minutes.

thanks a bunch for your time.

Standing down suffers a bit of QT low res... that's a pity.
The general feeling is very good! The acting is very good! The film look is very good. Even costumes!

I didnt like the hand held camera thou I guess is a well thought choice of your. I didnt like becos - sorry if I say this - make look the footage a bit amateur while all the rest is not.
i think that we dvx users should dare a bit more, even denying some wished aesthetic choices, to look more "cinema": some short n slow travellings with BG not on focus on the close ups, for example.... To let us hear the time going by just before a death.

what do you think?

yes i agree with you very much. i had worked with the writer/director on 4 previous occasions, shooting on various formats and cameras. we had used numerous tracking and crane shots, creating a very slick looking result. However when overused these can start to look a bit dull and lifeless, and some camera moves seemed to lack energy and drama, even if they did look quite pleasing and have high production values.

But you are definately right, some nice tracks at the begining when the scene is not so tense would have been ideal (although a nightmare to carry the equipment into the woodland). Some tree branches in the foreground out of focus with the characters in the background would have been nice too.

As for the TV channel it was http://www.propellertv.co.uk which i dont actually have because i only have basic cable!
