DVX short to screen at Fantastic Fest

Thanks to dvxuser, I was inspired to shoot a short film called BED BUGS for last season's DVXuser Sci-Fi Fest. Unfortunately, my short ended up being more of a horror film than sci-fi and it was too long (at 18 minutes!) to qualify for the DVXuser fest. But fortunately, the film didn't turn out too bad at all! In fact, it has been invited to screen at Fantastic Fest (www.fantasticfest.com) in Austin Texas (an awesome sci-fi and horror film festival programmed by, among others, Harry Knowles of Ain't It Cool News). Anyhow, I'm sorta psyched, cuz this was my first film. And I have to give a big thanks to all the DVXuser guys who gave me great advice here right from prep, though production, to editing (especially krestofre, a true master of Avid!).

More info at www.myspace.com/bugbites if any are interested.

Cheers!

No one took much notice after my first post on the subject, but I'm resolving not to be deterred from further shameless self-promotion. My micro-budget DVX horror short BED BUGS just got a Best of 2006 mention from Dread Central. Right on (and that's what I call shameless self-congratulations)!

Dread Central's original review of the film is here: http://www.dreadcentral.com/index.php?name=Reviews&req=showcontent&id=1108

And the Best of 2006 mention is in Debi Moore's Best/Worst list at: http://www.dreadcentral.com/bestworst06.html

Okay, sure she also liked Snakes on a Plane (cool snakes I'll admit but...) but she also clearly has a penchant for a few interesting flicks off the beaten path like The Abandoned and the very cool Feast.

Happy New Year folks.

It's surprising it worked out, given it was prepped in very little time and shot for next to nothing. At the very least, it's given me the nerve to tackle my next project. As for seeing it in its entirety, the plan is to put together a horror short DVD with a few other filmmakers. Seems like selling a DVD with a single short isn't really giving an audience enough bang for the buck. But if there are maybe 4 or 5 good shorts, I think it could be cool.

Wish I had a damn trailer for Bed Bugs to share, but I spent so many countless hours editing the thing I just had not an ounce of stamnina left. If I had cash I'd hire someone to cut a cool 1 minute trailer. Weird trying to make trailers for a short though. I mean the films are often not much longer than a bloody trailer! ;-)

EDIT: by the way, Stricken looks beautiful.
