Short version:

As some of you know, I have spent the past two years working full time to bring the family friendly "Sugar Creek Gang" film series to life. Now I present to you a violent war film. (just kidding -- no gore here).

PLEASE watch my short film "Battaglia" (running time 7 minutes)
and (if you find it worthy) bless it with a five star vote! (link) :engel017:

Long version:

I am pleased to announce that my World War II short film, "BATTAGLIA," has made it into the final round of the Tribeca Film Festival Short Film Competition on Amazon.com. Only five films made it this far, and it's up to you to choose the ultimate winner.

Please support "BATTAGLIA" by visiting the Tribeca Screening Room (www.amazon.com/screeningroom) to watch and rate the five finalist films. Amazon.com customer ratings will be used to determine the winner, who will receive the grand prize of an American Express prepaid card in the amount of $50,000.

Note that you'll need to log in to your Amazon.com account in order to view the movies.

I'm keeping this brief so you'll go check out the films, but I'll respond to any production questions etc about the short in this thread.
Thank you for your support!

Congratulations and good luck Owen, I'll have to go check out your film. $50K AMEX card--wow, that's a serious prize. BTW, I also noticed one of your Sugar Creek Gang DVDs on the the cover of the September Disc makers catalog.

Thanks Barry!

Yeah, it was either front page of Variety or the cover of the Discmakers catalog. I hope I didn't make the wrong choice! :embarasse

Hello Owen I gave you 4 out of 5.Yours was the best of the bunch. How is Sugar Creek Gang doing?

Hey thanks!

Sugar Creek is truckin' along -- the entire series should be on the shelves in time for Christmas (oh boy!).

Owen, yours had the best story out of all of them. Hopefully if they have this competition again I'll have be able to do it.

Yo Owen..madd props to you..no joke. That was awesome

I gave it a 4 out of 5...only because...like a few parts of the story were a tad choppy and it seemed to move a bit fast...like the museam parts...but it was good.

I thought those particle effects you put in were really cool...you could tell a little that it was put in there cuz of the way it moved...but it was still really good. I was jus suprisied towards the middle end that those two didnt like scream or attempt to run for cover when that bomb was coming.

But overall..it was good.

Good job!

Owen, who is your distributor? "Sugar Creek Gang" looks really good. Congrats on making the final 5!

Thanks for watching! Yeah -- it is definitely rushed. The fist cut came out to over 10 minutes, but Amazon requires it stay under 7. DOH! The longer version plays much better, and I've had time to work on the sub-par FX as well.

So far the vast majority has been self-distribution, including landing the Movie Gallery

Wow man! Just spent a couple of hours watching the entries! Congrats to you! I loved your short!

How long ago did you enter? And did you make the short just for the tribeca festival? I remember watching last years entries and thinking "wow I'd love to enter next year"

Anyway, congrats! This is awesome!!

5 stars, Owen

It was a pain to watch in that size, but from what I could tell it looks and sounds superb. And you guys have put your soul into it, with the story being close to some of you personally, so I'd give it a 5 regardless of the technical side. Plus, I'm a sucker for war movies :)

Now, show me a high quality version!

The contest began in early September, with the top five being selected after about 4 weeks of voting. The film was made in August specifically for this contest (it's actually in the rules that your entry can never have been part of a previous contest and can not have been previously released to the public -- so unless someone had a gem of a short sitting locked away in the attic they had to get out and make one for the contest).

Higher quality coming soon (during the contest period it's against the rules to release the film in any other venue).

Amazon tries to detect your connection speed, and sometimes gives you a postage stamp sized image, while other times it's a slightly more tolerable 320x240 version. Maybe you got the microscopic one :( They were very speficic about video format and required that all videos be sent in Flash format with the specifications they provided.

Regardless, after entering the 7 minute cut at Amazon I got to tag along on a half-track with a group of WWII reenactors and got some really great footage that I'll be adding in. The ending is also going to be entirely reshot, as a severe rain delay all but ruined the final few minutes of the war sequence. Eventually the film will be 10 - 15 minutes long and much more polished (with decent visual FX I hope).

Thanks (everybody) for checking it out!

Bumpity bump -- since there are only 48 hours left! Headed to NYC next week where they'll tell me whether or not I can afford an HVX... er, I mean where they'll announce the winner.
