DVX short ifilm

1100 bucks? Amazing production values. The performances were consistently convincing throughout. Very pro. I'm impressed. I notice the year on the film is 2004. What you doing next?

Thanks. I'm glad you liked it. It's pretty amazing what you can do nowadays with so little money.

Right now I'm putting together a low budget feature film, that looks promising. I also work pretty steadily as a screenwriter, and I'm writing an animation project (a series) that has some interest.

That was an excellent film! As said above, consistency makes this one a winner. Great acting for the most part, and wonderful shots/editing.

I enjoyed watching it...very impressive! Couple questions though, did you have to get any permits for the downtown shots and at the union station if so....where from and how much?I know it's in Chi-town but which dept exactly?? I also noticed a lot of jerky movement during those quick pans like walking across the bridge...do you get the same effect when played back on tv or is it a compression thing.Lastly the film looks filmic but a little dark...is it any brighter on tv. Thanks and again great job!!

1. Thanks

2. No permits. we went in there stealthily. The country was at a higher terrorism alert, so there was a lot of security, U.S. Marshalls, walking around and riding around on bicycles. We just kind of mapped out what we were going to do, and went in and hoped for the best. If they would have confiscated the camera we would've been screwed. Some people sitting around were looking at us suspiciously. Especially, the couple on the bench next to Mary and Joe. I copped to them what we were doing and they calmed down. We got the shots and ran. Good thing because my DP Alan went back in to go to the bathroom, and said some Marshalls were in the rotunda look around for us.

3. Bridge stuff. You don't really see the jerking motions on tv, in either scene when they go across the bridge. And when Joe crosses the Kinze Street bridge later in the film.

4. Darkness. No it's not dark on tv. I didn't want to color correct it too light, then the colors would be dull. And because of no money I was only given one shot at color correct, no tinkering.

Thanks again

Well the writing in your short is really solid, so not surprisingly you'd get work in that field.

Sean, Thanks for the nice comment.

Jinx, one thing to add about the jerky motion in the bridge crossing scenes. Parts of it were handheld. That might account for it.

The actors worked on deferred payment. The DP worked for nothing and so did everyone else.

The DVX rental was $250 x 2 (two weekends). Hospital room rental was $250 (one day). The rest was eaten up in catering (mostly Subway) and gas.

Really liked it. Very well put together. There were a few pans tward the begining that would have looked better as a tracking shot but thats just nitpicking.
I really liked it.

Sure, but that would have meant renting a track, and it wasn't in the budget. There was a reason I only had so much money to do it with, and it wasn't because I was broke.
