dvx short film trailer

the quality of the images look really good, the trailer it self looks a bit too vague to encourage me to want to go see it or even remember the advertisement. I seen one of your music videos before and thought it was pretty impressive.

Thanks. Yea, I dunno, it's a 10 minute short. A 2 hour feature has a 2 minute trailer, so a 10 minute short really can't have a serious trailer. Thanks.

oh i thought it was for a feature, tricky making trailers for shorts, its linda like making a trailer for a trailer...or something, i donno if i'm too keen on trailers for shorts unless ur Peter Jackson or something

cool trailer!
I'm always suprised by the quality of the video you upload.
the video looked like you uploaded it on vimeo in HD:)

what was your export setting?
(sorry if I asked you before)

My night shooting has always looked grainy and the color is washed out. I've tried everything. How did you get it to look that way? Was it mainly in post?

I haven't seen the trailer cuz I'm on my phone...however if it is anything like his previous work the master ped is set low. So set ur master ped low to "crush" or get more solid blacks. How low? Well that's up to u and what look u want. U will have to light the scene decently also.
U can also do it in post if u want.

watched it...images looked sick! man i know u've said ur encoding methods already but i must be missing sumthing...so like ryvac I wanna know again....the quality is amazing. i need that kinda quality online man. what do u cut on again?

Also are those lens flares real ? well i know the are real but did u do anything to enhance them?
I agree that u cant get much from the story...but it looks so good.
Nice work

Thanks everyone. Those flares are real. Yea, master ped -15 is the way to go for real black. One way to get clean video is to pour loads of light, then stop it down. If you saw what it looked like on location it was super bright. Also almost all of my lighting set ups are one point, and sometimes two point. If you start using too many lights then you just get a boring flat image with no contrast. I also always shoot wide open. Yea, it's not a trailer at all, I think i am gonna retitle it teaser, right now.

thanks
Will

Oh, forgot, I cut on final cut pro 5.1.4. Export settings are 24 frames, 4000 bit rate, you have to restrict it, 872x480. There was also no color correction applied to video either. A lot of it is the camera settings, exposure, and lighting. I had to use a stupid high shutter to stop it down enough to not look like a bad soap opera.

Looks good, I love the image quality you got with the DVX, however I have the feeling you didn't put much effort in cutting your trailer, you can add some voice narrating, more action! and I maybe had leave the original audio under the music.

Here's a trailer I did in 2 hours for a 16min short http://sandboard.50webs.com/lapropiafilms/
Shot on DVX, it is in spanish, but trailer is only 1 min and you'll understand what I mean.

Here's a more elaborated trailer I did in a week of editing work http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhzRshhbOzI (this one is not shot on DVX, but a crappy miniDV)

Keep up!

edit: Is this Squeeze?

Yow Will this is a nitpick but first u say u pour lots of lights then stop down...but then u say u always shoot wide open (to get shallow DOP i;m guessing) So i was like huh? But then u go on to say in another post that u used a high shutter to cut the light .."stop down". It was just a bit confusing, as ur fstop is really still wide open ( not stopped down). So maybe u should say u used a high shutter to cut the light intensity.

Anyhoo...it just confused me a bit.

So do we get to see it? cuz it looks bad ass to me.
