DVX run time costs.

Heres a tricky one, has anyone worked out what the run time cost is on a DVX, I.E the amount it drops in value in regards to the hours on the heads, or head replacement costs.

I guess the easiest way would be to figure after how many hours its best to repair/replace the heads/camera, how much it costs and work from there.

I just wanna be able to shout "TIME IS MONEY PEOPLE, MY CAMERAS ROLLIN AND ITS COSTING ME XX A SECOND"

:D

and then go back to being fed grapes whilst watching the monitor.

Re: DVX run time costs.

I'm at 203 hours, and have had a total of 3 dropouts. . . ever. I don't think your going to be able to convince anyone that the camera rolling is going to be costing you money. Buy hey, why not just say $10bucks a minute, that should get a reaction. :)

Re: DVX run time costs.

if i am booked fo a day i sometimes make deals where i get an amount for 8 hours (from leaving my house to returning to it, so including travel). over 8 hours costs more. so i can´t charge for 20 seconds DV tape, but if it gets 20 seconds every minute i soon get overtime and then i charge for every second. in return the footage rights are theirs.....fair deal.
doesn´t work always and you need to see what is shot for who,but it sometimes helps to get back to editing sooner :P

Re: DVX run time costs.

Any camera you should make the cost of the camera back in 3 years at a minimum (try to get a little profit for your investment). The IRS has your camera depreciated to zero after 5 years but the pace of technology puts your camera obsolete after about 3. If you are shooting with the DVX 250 days a year that should not be a problem. Figure you should get the heads professionally cleaned and aligned about every year or 500 hours of use.

Your milage may vary. :)
