DVX repairs in Australia

I live in Australia, and am very interested in getting my mitts on a DVX sometime in the next six months.

However, prices just overseas are a little too good to ignore, and am seriously looking at Global Media Pro or Expandore for a future purchase.

However, i have heard that the ONLY way to get DVX cameras repaired in AUS is via a group called Rexel, and they refuse, flat out, to repair a camera imported through unofficial channels. Which rules out all camera shops in the asia pacific region, reputable or otherwise.

So my questions to any Australian users out there are:

If I buy from an overseas vendor, where can I get the camera serviced in Australia?

And if I can get it serviced in Australia, will any warranty be honoured or will I have to pay?

I'm not much fussed ordering from Global Media Pro or Expandore just as long as I can be assured that I can get the camera repaired locally (payed or otherwise) without having to send the damn thing back to where ever in hell it came from for servicing. Its more about time and convienence then anything else.

That and saving 1500$ Aus on a local brick and mortar purchase.

Hmm. Rexel wont repair a model bought in from OS? Even if you pay? Seems wierd. I would call them myself and eexplain the situation. I think if you just said hey umm I was living overseas so I had to buy my cam. Now Im back. Maybe they have that attitude to deter the grey market but that sounds ridiculous.

I will buy another cam here in Japan, which will make the long journey back to Aus next year. If something ever happens to it "they" pay for return shipping back to Japan repair and return.

I notice in US if you have a breakdown under warranty they make YOU pay to ship it back, CAM shouldnt break down its their job. Im talking about Panasonic, Sony, Canon, Toshiba they pretty much all have the same policy. Oh but when you buy you must be living here, to save on confusion I get my wife to call if I ever have an issue. Just in case you thought buying from Japan was an option.

Rexel is, as far as I know, out of the business. It's all handled by Panasonic Australia now. And, as far as I know, yes they reserve the right to tell you to take gray-market product back where it came from for service.

That doesn't mean they will, but they could.

You definitely wouldn't get any free warranty service from them if you bought through GMP or Expandore, that's certain.

If you find out where your camera came from (Singapore or China or wherever) then you could send it back there for warranty service...

... but if you want Australian warranty service, that means buying from an Australian authorized dealer.
