dvx problem

I have a dvx 100a. When I record there is a static sound on the playback and flashes of light on the screen. I ran the tape cleaner through twice like it said in the owners manual and tried a new tape but got the same results. Any suggestions?
 
That is a good idea, but I bought camera used and do not have any footage on good tapes. I do have a repair protection card that came with it but I wanted to make sure there wasn't something I could do before I took it in.
 
NEW INFORMATION... Maybe it's not my camera, playback on the flip out monitor looks great, but when I transfer it to my computer and watch it is where I am seeing the problem. For right now I am using windows movie maker. I wonder if my problem could be with the computer and not the camera. Is this possible?
