DVX-POD 7-inch portable 16:9 video player

Re: DVX-POD 7-inch portable 16:9 video player

Pookie--   All we're doing is advising some common sense caution about PayPaling $600 to an obscure company with an unproven product.  It sures seems reasonable to let some other folks order this thing, receive it, and test it before blindly handing over your money.  For such an advanced product, it does have a strangely low profile and the (little available) stuff on the web is pure press release and interview based.  Also, the first version of a lot of tech gear usually has a few bugs that eventually get worked out. I do think it seems really cool and who knows, maybe I'll end up buying one, but I want to read a review or two and see the device first.

Re: DVX-POD 7-inch portable 16:9 video player

Interesting.
Those who "slag" off a product see no problem in doing so, without any reason to.
Order the "DVX-POD", then report on your results. If it doesn't show up, Paypal can recover your money, it's part of their service.
I really doubt any commenting here haven't bought things on eBay, sending money to a stranger, then waiting for the delivery.

Terry, perhap's jumping on the product bashing bandwagon, before the product is even released, earns you the "antagonist" badge yourself.

Re: DVX-POD 7-inch portable 16:9 video player

Looks nice,
but where did you guys see the price for this device?
I think it is a Taiwanese company(head quater in Taipei) which is alot more reliable than most Chinese companies.

Re: DVX-POD 7-inch portable 16:9 video player

I'm not on the bandwagon. Personally, I'll wait for Apple's version... or perhaps Panasonic's. :P

Heh heh... from the name (DVX-POD) you would think it was the illegitimate child of Panasonic and Apple! :D

well who wouldn't want to name a device based on electronics leading way ahead of it's competition? ;) personally, i would've preferred, "idvx" or idvx-mini". :P

Re: DVX-POD 7-inch portable 16:9 video player

I didn't hear anyone "bashing" the device. I just heard people suggesting prudence.

Re: DVX-POD 7-inch portable 16:9 video player

Just for the record, just because a page looks like a paypal page, doesn't mean that it's a working paypal page.

Part of the phishing scheme usually involves creating a fake form identical to the one you'd normally use. The unsuspecting user thinks they're on a legitimate site (to change their password, log onto their account, make a payment, whatever) and they enter their information, unknowingly giving someone full access to their account.

Pookie, did you already preorder one of these? Is that why you're so irrationally defensive about all this?

Re: DVX-POD 7-inch portable 16:9 video player

looks like t3 mag gave it a bad review...

"the unit suffers from so many problems. Even on the highest quality setting, video recorded off TV is jerky and generally of pretty poor quality. The user interface is also basic and lacks vital functions such as timer recording. Worse, it can't cope properly with directories deeper than two levels, which makes it difficult to organise music on the device, and we found it also had a tendency to lose sync between video and audio when playing some DivX movies.

So, while the DVX-POD has a sexy design and a great screen, it's ultimately let down by DivX playback issues, poor recording performance and a user interface that's too basic."

Re: DVX-POD 7-inch portable 16:9 video player

J_Barnes has a good point about fake pages. I know I've gotten a few that looked like real ones. Granted they were through a link in an e-mail, (which was what made me suspicious) but they sure looked real to me.

Re: DVX-POD 7-inch portable 16:9 video player

Perhap's J_Barnes cannot search the internet, therefore he must describe things as "fake".

Were we to believe his approach, sadly boo, the review you speak of doesn't exist for this "fake" "fishy" product.

As far as "did you already preorder one of these", sadly, to ruin your hopes, no, I'm not in the market for such an item. My point, which seems to evade you, is that there are too many people, far too quick to malign products...an unfortunate trait.

To believe only your points are valid, and attempt to discredit a product you have never seen, held or used....you might have issues to work through.

I am simply pointing out the other side of what has become a rather poisoned opinion, for those who have an open mind, and are interested in an item that may be useful for their needs.

;)

Re: DVX-POD 7-inch portable 16:9 video player

Again, I have to say that I never saw anybody "discredit" anything. They merely gave their opinion that the vendor and/or circumstance raised a few red flags for them. I appreciate such things being shared, and I hope that they continue.
Certainly nothing that what said (except the review) would affect my view of the product, only the specific website that was cited.

Re: DVX-POD 7-inch portable 16:9 video player

From the T3 review it looks promising, especially the high quality 7" screen, but predicatably there are some bugs. I'm sure some of them can be addressed in firmware updates, but it's probably going to take another product cycle or two before this kind of product gets the kinks worked out.

Re: DVX-POD 7-inch portable 16:9 video player

Pookie, don't be such an ass.

I never said anything specific about this PRODUCT other then the OPINION that it looks interesting. As far as the SITE, I've stated repeatedly why I think it looks fishy...which again is an OPINION about a SITE and not a PRODUCT. I’ve also cited the exact reasons why it raises my suspicions and I’ve repeatedly stated that the business might actually be legitimate.

As far as the PRODUCT, I’d prefer to actually see it in person before I dismiss or praise it’s function.

I’m not sure exactly what causes you to respond to me in this way as I’ve given you neither cause nor reason to act so hostile.

If you've got a gripe about the way the world critiques new electronics, I’d advise that you take it up with the legitimate offenders.

I do believe that making this statement regarding their method of selling the product, implies the product must be equally poor.

Closed mind, dear friend.

Re: DVX-POD 7-inch portable 16:9 video player

I'm having a hard time with that. Being suspicious about a dealer is not the same thing as criticizing the product they sell. I know I have bought products I love and would recommend from places that I wouldn't return to. In fact, as much as I love my DVX (I'd sleep with it at night if my wife would let me) I would buy from a different dealer if I were to do it again.

Re: DVX-POD 7-inch portable 16:9 video player

Just when I think you've made the lamest argument your can possibly muster, you go and one up yourself. Let us struggle to follow your premise.

Because I state that there are phishing schemes out there on the internet, ones that often mock legitimate banks, logins, and merchant gateways, you’ve made the assumption that this statement relates specifically and wholly to the amatechnologies website.

Okay, that wasn’t my intention in making that statement, but lets follow your derailed train of logic.

You contend that by making a statement of suspicion regarding a third party distributor’s website, I am thusly indicting the technology as faulty. I’ve been sitting here for three minutes trying to find the best words to tell you how illogical that contention is, yet somehow I don’t have full confidence in your capacity for reasoning.

You can struggle for whatever means necessary to put words in my mouth in lame attempts to prove your point, but your leaps in logic are nothing short of astounding.

Arguments of stupidity are temporal, but reputations of stupidity persevere.

Re: DVX-POD 7-inch portable 16:9 video player

Woo hoo, how about those Yankees! :'(

Ok, seriously now, I posted this thread because I thought the hardware was interesting and that others would also be interested. A conversation about that topic would ne nice. Not about internet scams, etc.. although that is good info. Maybe another topic/forum?

So, pookie, J_Barnes, go to your rooms and cool down. You can come down and continue the topic discussion later. :D
