DVX phantom power has failed.

My DVX doesn't appear to be generating phantom power for the INPUT 2 mic.

I've checked the LINE/MIC switches on the front of the camera, and they are properly configured.

The XLR inputs are working. My self-powered AT897 works fine, the internal mic works fine, but my Countryman lav (which requires phantom power) does not.

Anyone else had this problem? Solutions? :undecided

One solution would be to purchase a small mixer. I"m not sure how the dvx is constructed but it seems a little weird to suddenly lose just phantom power. No other symptoms?

Ummm... just 'cause you didn't mention.... is phantom power switched on? "48v"?

Yep, 48V MIC POWER is switched on, and I've tried the lav in both INPUT 1 and INPUT 2.

As far as symptoms, there aren't really any others. I guess my lav could've crapped out, but don't know any reason why that would happen either.

Hmmm... you don't have another mic and/or phantom-powered mic you could test? Or a voltmeter?

Did it ever work?

We see this happen sometimes. There is an ICP (a small fuse) that is on one of the Power Sub PCB's that blows. I don't know what causes it to blow but it happens.

It may be a good practice to turn the Phantom +48V on after the MIC is plugged in, and turn it off before you unplug the MIC. Just a thought.

You may also want to keep Phantom turned off if you plug line levels in also.

I tried the AT897 under phantom power (with the internal AA battery removed) and it failed. But it works fine when self-powered.

Andrew, your diagnosis sounds like it's on target. Recommendations?
