DVX PAL Authorised Dealers

Hi Everyone

I am quiet new to this forum. I have been hiring DVX to shoot some things and looking to buy one. I checked the list of the sellers on the Authorised Dealer topic but seems NTSC and was wondering if we could maybe have a list for PAL dealers which would make it a bit easier for us PAL users.

I've only used the dvx100 (first model) and that only seems to have 25p. I know of VideoGuys but they are a ripoff. Been to some stores but Australia just sucks for Pro equipment as far as prices go, unless you got plenty of cash. I would be willing to buy overseas as long as its Pal. So just any authorised dealer that sells PAL versions I am willing to go with.

The 25Pa question has been asked a couple of times already. My understanding is there is no such thing as 25Pa.

Put simply NTSC is 30 full frames a second (60i) where as PAL is only 25 (50i) and 24 doesn't divide into 30 as easily as 25 devides into 25 so 24P required some method of dealing with this.

24Pa is just using a more advanced method of dealing with this discrepancy in timing.

I am not particularly familiar with this subject as I am in the UK so we use PAL. I probably should have looked this up before answering (But then you probably should have looked it up before asking - just kidding).

after looking at the broucher pdfs for both ntsc and pal versions

you're right, there is only 25p, which works the same way as 30p (no pull down, just one full frame recorded onto both fields, i think)

so if that's the case, does that mean that the only "special" thing about the pal dvx (frameratae wise) is that it has native progessive sensors?

lots of other pal cameras have progressive modes, is the pal dvx still the SD progressive king?

Good point. All Pal cameras are 25 frames a second. But then the DVX isn't so widely loved because of it's pulldown right? For every person on these boards who raves about 24p there are three more who love the DVX for it's latitude or it's glass or it's manual controls.

But I have to admit I have always thought of the DVX as being good at 24P but that probably isn't so important a consideration in latitude a PAL. Does that make sense?
