DVX (or EVEN XL2) to HDV

Maybe I posted this to the wrong area this morning. So I'll try again. Just going out of town for a few weeks so wanted to know.

I'm not a tech guru.  So not sure if this would work or not.

JVC sells the CU-VH1US-P a HDV player/recorder.  Could you hook it up to either camera instead of a hard drive and record to it?

The below is off a JVC web page.

It frame doubles 30 frames-per-second 720/30p HD recordings for viewing on progressive 720/60p analog HD monitors, or converts 480/60p or 720/30p signals to 1080/60i HD

Back to some ideas.

So since its 30 frames and I'm not a tech guy, could you shoot in the 24p mode and record it to the player/recorder (in HDV mode) or would you lose the 24p motion that is so nice?

My guess is it it did keep the motion of the 24p you'd be editing at 30fps, and when you bring it into FCP HD, you might do the convert at the same time to 1080/60i? Just have to have the hard drive space.

So if it did work it'd be fine for a video release. Bad if you want to go to film.

Not sure if they sell a Pal verison.

Just wondering thats all.

Dude, just shoot normally on the DVX, then up-rez it to HD. Use SSpline-Pro to do it, or use the WM9 encoder.

Barry Green has done this and it looked impressive.

He will probably answer this better than me.

All the best

Fidel.

Re: DVX (or EVEN XL2) to HDV

The deck records HDV. I don't know that you could even plug it into a DVX (through firewire) and expect it to work -- the deck's probably expecting to see an HDV signal, not a DV signal.

Might work if you used the analog ports, but to what purpose? The DVX will already have sampled/compressed/uncompressed the image at SD resolution, so I don't think using an HD deck would buy you any image quality.

And 24P is not part of the HDV spec.

But hey, that's just speculation...

I can't imagine how it could unless it upconverts on the fly, and jeez, why would it?. A Microsoft Paint .bmp file doesn't become an AutoCAD 3D .dwg project just because you open it on a machine which has AC loaded . . .

Hey dude, ideas are never crazy. It is through experimentation that we learn.

Hi there araujofh

you suggest using Sspline Pro to upres the footage.

Dude, just shoot normally on the DVX, then up-rez it to HD. Use Sspline-Pro to do it

I have looked at this software and it appears to be used for still images only.

How do you mean?

Re: DVX (or EVEN XL2) to HDV

..you have to export a still image sequence from your nle and do batch proccessing in photozoom pro. then just import the new uprezzed image sequence into the nle, and export your new file. ..if doing a filmout, they might just take the .tif image sequence, so you may not have to do any more than that though.
