DVX not connecting to Premier Pro...help?

Strange, I just connected the DVX100BPS via the IEEE1394 cable and plugged it into the movieboxDV. turned on the PC and camera, vhanged the camera frrom "camera" to "VCR", opened Premier Pro and of course went into the capture application. The forward, back, play buttons in Premier dont do a thing on the DVX. It's like it doesn't even see it (but it does pop up as connected) so whats going on? Is there some other kind of setting I have to change? All of our other cameras including the XL1 have always been pretty much "plug and play". :-(

I suggest not even using the DVX to capture, get a capture cam or DV deck, save ur heads a little.

playback is one thing, but capturing!? ewwww.

So you're telling me that the DVX100BPS can't even be used to capture video well? Ordering this thing is becoming a greater mistake by the minute. I'm actually quite shocked we're having so many problems with it as the praise seems to be overwhealming. We should just stick to the XL2 cameras. Thank you very much for the information.

What he said was to not use your DVX as the capture device; this is to save wear and tear on the video heads. This doesn't mean that the DVX100B can't be used to capture video well; it sure can be. It's just that, to save wear and tear on the camera heads (the part of the DVX that reads the tapes), what a lot of people do is use a cheaper MiniDV camcorder or DV deck as the capture device when transferring footage to a computer. And in turn, they only use their DVX to record the footage (and then they'll insert the tape they used into the cheaper camcorder for transferring). This helps to increase your DVX's overall lifespan. Of course, you don't HAVE TO; it's just recommended.

Actually, (I just had this thought, although I'm not 100% sure on this), if you find you have no problems using the XL1 for transferring footage, what you could do is just insert the tape you used for the DVX into the XL1, and capture it through the XL1 into premiere.

ah ok. We actually have a couple of extra XL1s laying that arn't used anymore so that might be good. But still, I would like to figure out at least why Premier Pro can't "talk" to the DVX camera. It's wierd. :-(

Are you using Vista? That has been a recurring problem for me in Vista. Some days the firewire works and some days it doesn't.

premiree pro works fine with the DVX but as many ohters said, it does have issues with VISTA incase u are running it.

ALSo like the other guys said....most of us dont use the CAMERA to capture from just so we save the heads from all the unnecessary usage. MAjority of us use a less expenisve deck/camer to capture from. But thats just a personal preffernce.

I dont even rewind/ff my tapes in the DVX, i never review footage in camera, heh. Its funny cuz i always get ppl 'hey man let me see that" and i snub them, and they dont understand even when i say why i cant show them footage, ahahahah its too funny..... DVX NAZI right here..lol

go into the capture options and make sure stuff there is selected correctly
