DVX Movie Sleepover Nightmare at Blockbuster.

Hey everybody this is my first time posting, I have no idea what I'm doing, but I'll get it eventually. I'm just browsing getting a feel of the site, who ever created this is a genius.

Well thank you :)

Jarred,

I finally located a copy of your movie at Movie Gallery, my Blockbusters and Hollywood Video didn't carry it. I got to say I enjoyed it. The plot was 80's slasher 101 but the characters and their situations were more entertaining then say "War of the Worlds", where the only time there were people onscreen and it was interesting was when the aliens were blasting them into ash (fantastic EFX though).

Anyways, congratulations, you've done it, having a movie in these stores is huge.

This is my first post (longtime lurker) here and I have a ton of questions which I'll try to limit. But I have to tell you you've changed my perspective on things, all things considered -- budget, time, prime lenses, your DVX movie holds it's own against "28 Days Later", in film look. It looks better than "Murderball" and from what little I've seen, probably too little to really give a fair assement, "November". I'll probably wait a little to see how the whole HD thing shakes out but as of right now I'm going to buy a DVX and your movie sold me on it.

Questions:

Camera Setup: I'm I right in assuming this is a 24PA thin detail shoot? Was the 16:9 squeeze or adapter? What shutter speed was used?

Motion: Is this what 24PA made into a 24P DVD looks like? Is this what I can expect making DVDs with from this camera? Or was there something else done to the film to make the film's motion smoother? I think it looked very film-like in motion, not at all jerky.

Noise: Was the film run though some software or something to clean up noise? I've seen footage from the A model (which I've heard is actually noiser than the original DVX) which is actually quite noisy.

Sharpness: Was the film run though some software or something to make it appear sharper? Even "Wildboyz" on MTV, which I like the DVX look on, looks soft and noisy compared to "Sleepover Nightmare". Is 24PA material sharper than regular 24P material?

Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions. I'm sure there'll be other DVX newbies that will be helped by your answers as well. Looking forward to renting your next film and I promise my second post won't be as long.

yes .. 24pa thin, with 16:9 in camera. that ana adapter is garbage. Shutter was mostly 1/48

it was all 24p camera to dvd.. you can see the 60i stuff in the car jump flashback scene, it looks like crap compared to the 24p shot stuff.

yes, we put it through a hardware noise reducer... but it visually didnt make that much of a differnce ( it was a distributor thing )

no.. thats straight from camera. We used a real focus system though.

Resurrected! I just received the movie from Netflix, and though I watched the entire thing, I can't really comment much about the story, since I was watching it entirely from a technical perspective. Some very impressive moments (interior night lighting), others left me confused (outdoor sky overexposure). About to watch the commentary, which I'm hoping will be informative. Nice job Jarred, less male ass next time though, please.

Jarred talks about the over exposed sky somewhere in this thread...

And, yeah its hard to really nail this genre with that much male ass and no booby!

but I hear Jarred was just really insistent on shooting that guys ass and making sure the shot stayed in -- like I heard he was gonna walk of the gig if they didn't get that shot

...but to each his own I guess

dude.. i cut out 4 minutes of that 60i underwater crap.. We had a national geographic guy film that stuff, and you should of seen him freak out when dude pulled down his shorts... he had no idea that was gonna happen.

I watched it, the van crash in the beginning was pretty cool. The 60i stuff stuck out like herpes. It kept me and my friends interested the whole time. Great job.

Jared I bought the movie from Amazon and I have to agree the PD150 sticks out like a sore thumb. Which scenes did you shoot?

I shot everything except the 60i stuff... I also recut the movie after Victor's cut, and we removed most of it but some stuff like some of the car flip blowups we where stuck with the D camera.

I'm pretty sure all your questions were answered in the post just above yours if you didn't feel like reading the posts on earlier pages.
