Is there anything wrong with the DVX matte-box, apart from the fact that it doest hold French Flags? I'm considering modding it to fit onto my adapter wth possible additions and I'm wondering why it hasnt been done before.... feedback anyone?
 
The DVX has a sunshade, not a mattebox. If it doesn't hold filters, it isn't a mattebox. I've seen some modify their sunshade to take a French flag, but it won't be as versatile as something hinged. You can always screw filters into the front element of your DVX - it's a 72mm thread. The reason pros don't do this is it is rather clunky if you need to rapidly change filters or stack multiple filters during shooting.

Common mattebox filter sizes for cinema and are: 3x3, 4x4, 4x5.65 and 5x5.

Ive got a cokin filter holder and I was looking at ways of attaching it to the sunshade so that it would be a little more versatile. It is a little clunky single the size is so compact, but it looks like it could work. and it i believe the cokin filter holders are stackable...

ive got 3x3 filters and they fit in just fine.
 
oh wait.. i missed a very important part of this post: i'm looking at using it in front of my 35mm adapter, so the clunky part doesn't affect it at this point. It;s not just for in front of the DVX.

that's the idea. it's already on there since I'd already done a DIY Matte Box w/French Flag (yes with a hinge), and I was really wondering about just using the "shadow box" as a matte-box instead...
 
I'd like to see the progress on this. Maybe order a few off ebay incase you screw up your original one. I might jump on the band wagon for this one.
 
Here's what I came up with. Minus the Cokin piece.

thats a pretty good jump there Car30. I'll get some pics up soon with the Cokin Filter Holder mounted. I haven't drilled any holes at all except on the additional piece at the back (and that's got a ton of holes in it now) to hold it to the holder, but its's an inact fit. I'm going to try a new mount today, possibly with a 72mm step-up ring and see if i cna get a mount without having to screw arund wiith the back of the shadow box.

but just in case.. ebay, here I come
 
Also, for resale of the DVX, you might want to fashion something that fits snuggly on the hood rather then drilling into it. It might be harder to sell the DVX if you have a few holes in the hood.

that's why extra hoods would be a good idea. I'm sure they'll sell them invidually everywhere.
