My dad is going to buy himself and me a new Camera, hes got it down between the DVX and the XL1s. I really would prefer the DVX. But my dad is going to be doing alot of nature filming so he needs somekind of macro capabilities, is there any kind of macro ability on the DVX? Thanks in advance!

They both perform macro functions, but the XL2 with the 20x lens (probably similar to XL1) allows true 1:1 macro focus like my old MicroNikkor lens used to do. As long as there is available light, you can get as close to the lens as you want. Imagine ants half the size of your TV screen!

You can't do that with the stock DVX lens since It needs diopter lenses to focus super close.

Besides, if your dad is doing nature stuff, the XL2 (or XL1) allows dozens of interchangeable lens options using the Canon EF adaptor (EOS lenses). Plus with the EF adapter, you can use standard T-mount tubes to connect the camera to a microscope or a telescope/spotting scope. Try that with any other video camera under $10k. Last but not least, you can even use non-Canon (Nikon, Olympus, ...) SLR and medium-format (Hasselblad, ...) lenses with adapters from Novoflex with or without the EF adapter.

Just search around the forums (here and dvinfo.net) for the nature stuff, and you'll see most of it is done with Canon.

Whoa, did I accidentally wander onto XL2User.com or something?

Hey, I couldn't resist.

He asked for a comparison between the two cameras. Lens options are indispensable for nature vids.
