DVX LCD or EVF

I was thinking and I wanted to know about my felow DVXUsers about one thing.

I watched Barry's DVD about the Scene File Settings, and how every item affects the image but, truth be told, I never use them, because I usually don't have a monitor with me, and I just CAN'T see any difference of scene file changes from the LCD or from the EVF. It's very hard to judge anything from the on-camera monitors. I mean, I know they are not meant to be precise, but I can hardly, barely, see the slightest difference between color temp +7 and -7!!

Am I doing something wrong or are the scene file controls just too delicate for the LCD and EVF? ???

I'm eager to hear your thoughts!

I'm surprised you can't see any difference. It's not nearly as obvious as on a monitor or TV, but you should see some changes when you have such an extreme. Have you tried to hook it up to a regular TV? That would give you a better idea.

You're definitely doing something wrong. First thing I'd say is, if you're trying to use Color Temp, make sure that your white balacne switch is in manual setting "A" or "B". If you have the white balance switch in PRST, then the color temp setting will have no effect.

When working properly, you should be able to see a visible change on each click of color temp. The difference between -7 and +7 should result in a picture that's very, very blue or one that's very, very orange.

Other settings, like color phase, will be a lot more subtle. With most of the settings you can't tell too much difference in each increment, but the difference between minimum and maximum is glaring; examples are Master Ped, Color Temp, and Chroma Level. Try setting two scene files to be exactly the same, except change those three settings to the smallest values in one, and the largest values in the other. Then switch between them with the scene file dial. The difference should be night and day.

Whoa, Barry, that was it! I barely use manual white balancing and when I do, I never mess with scene files (run and gun)

I was finding it strange, because I could still see changes from almost every scene file setting, like phase, chroma, pedestal (big difference)... But any from Color Temp.

The camera still has some secrets afterall... Maybe I can find a secret cork opener inside my tape mechanism... :)

Thanks a lot!
