DVX Internal Settings

Ok, so this is my problem. Everytime I shoot at 1/250 shutter speed in 24p it seems really dark. I have seen other stuff shot at 1/250 and it doesn't look as dark as mine. I was wondering if someone could help me out with giving me the perfect internal settings to make bring out the full potential of my camera?

Re: DVX Internal Settings

Both the progressive mode and the 1/250 shutter steals quite some light. You need to make sure you have enough light to shoot at these settings. Are you lighting your scene, or is it natural light? Shooting outside in daytime should be no problem though.

Also if it still looks dark, make sure you don't have any ND-filters in use and that your iris is fully open.

Re: DVX Internal Settings

In camera settings depend more on your personal and desired look you want to achieve. I have seen a lot of guides on this forum and many useful ones as well.
Try going to Technical - "Getting the right image" or "Shutter speed tutorial". You will find a lot of very interesting and detailed info there.
Regarding your question, from my experience, I only used 1/250 and shorter shutter speeds outdoor. Try opening the iris more and not using any nd filters to get the brighter image.

Re: DVX Internal Settings

guys thanks for your help but I am not an idiot. I know about ND filters and Iris settings. My question was is there any settings that I will get the best quality out of my camera. I have th dvx 100.

Re: DVX Internal Settings

We're only trying to help. Go to the topics I told you and you'll see what I mean.

Re: DVX Internal Settings

Why are you using 1/250? That's a very, very short shutter speed which would make your footage look quite stroby.

Using 1/250 is robbing you of about 2.25 stops worth of light (i.e., you need about 5x as much light at 1/250 as you would at 1/50). You should only be using 1/250 for a special "gladiator"-style effect, not for normal shooting, and when you choose to use it, just recognize you'll need 5x as much light as normal.

What was so wrong with what they said? Their answers seemed to address your question quite well.

Re: DVX Internal Settings

Sorry guys for being short yesterday. I had a terrible day and now going back reading my threats, I fell bad. So sorry for being rude. I know you were just trying to help.

And I have not modified my scene file settings.

Re: DVX Internal Settings

Ok, I bought my cam used and it had some custom scene files. Assuming you are at default settings and using no ND or other darkening filters, your issue would indicate only that you need more light as mentioned above.
What do you get on a sunny day shooting outside? You need to respond to the questions already posted if we are expected produce suggestions or possible solutions. Perhaps there is something wrong with your camera, we cannot tell. Supply more info please.
As for the the "perfect internal settings" thing, ...well, the answer is very easy. There ain't none. You may as well ask, "What's the perfect way to satisfy my lover?". Way too many variables to deal with and no info to work with. You need to know what kind of a look you want to produce first and work it out from there.
I'll add that I am very very far from being an expert in any of this and am learning as I go. I just try to be helpful when I see an opening. I am probing for info here in the hope that someone will come to the rescue when it is produced.

over to you, IDOG
