DVX in the snow

My DVX almost outlived me thanks to its nice cosy Pelican case :)
I went out to film some backcountry skiing with a couple of mates. Long story, but things went wrong on the walk in and we ended up having to get rescued. The camera (and tripod) survived, believe me I was happy to see them unload those off the chopper!
Anyway the point of my post is on the way up I shot a bit of footage and noticed some things when I played it back a few days after we got back. There were a lot of drop outs, some more than just single frames and also a flickering on the footage almost like some one was flicking the iris up and down really quickly but I had the iris on manual. So has anyone got any suggestions as to why the camera was mis-behaving and any solutions for when I go to do it all again next season?

Re: DVX in the snow

Did you view the footage from the camera or did you capture it to a computer? I've had similiar experience when viewing captured footage from the DVX but later discovered the DVX tape was fine. Something happened in the cature process and I was able to capture later the same tape with no problem.

Re: DVX in the snow

I don't know about the flickering iris problem, but I've shot in the cold before, and my tape was ridden with dropouts as well - so much so that the footage was completely unusable, everything needed to be re-shot. The camera just can't take too much abuse, really - I found that we could shoot in hour long spurts, as long as we warmed it up for about 15-20 minutes after each hour. The re-shoot went fine when we did this.
