I was wondering what some main differences are between the dvx and hvx other than hd. I searched but couldn't find much. Is it really worth $3000 more?

Well, it shoots DV to tape, and then HD to P2 cards. Don't you think the ability to shoot 720p and 1080i HD is worth $3000? And a format of HD far superior to HDV?

well the main difference is that the hvx is a high definition camera.. which means it shoots in higher resolutions than the dvx which is standard definition. Just that means a great difference in picture quality. The hvx can also shoot on P2 cards which is solid state memory cards & also of course minidv tapes. Another big difference is that the ccd's on the hvx are native 16:9 ccd's, which means the hvx shoots in widescreen natively, the dvx on the other hand shoots 4:3 it has widescreen modes but its not true full quality widescreen.
the hvx also has the capibility to shoot slow and fast motion.. im not sure if thats possible on the dvx.. i think it is. There are other differences also.. im sure, but as i dont own a dvx i dont know them all. hope that helps.. I suggest also you browse around the forum you will find most answers to your questions.

this is kind of like asking "whats the main difference between a shovel and a spoon?"
if youre putting sugar in your coffee, you use a spoon. but if your try to dig your garden with that same spoon, youre gonna be in sad shape...
they are different animals. one shoots a format that is nearing the end of its life. the other shoots in a format that isnt even in widespread use yet - you tell us if thats worth $3000 to you.
each camera has its uses, whether the costs are justified in your workflow is up to you

Okay thanks for the replies. But a few more more questions..
Could you still shoot 720p and 1080i to minidv? Or do you need p2 cards?
Would you just capture the p2 cards with the hvx?
How much more space does it take up in your hard drive compared to mini dv? Would i need to be constantly deleting stuff?

You cannot shoot HD to tape with the HVX. HD only to P2 cards. DV to tape.
How much space you take up depends on the format and frame rate you shoot. For example, DV is 3.6MB/s, DVCPRO HD 720p 23.98 is 5.6MB/s, and DVCPRO HD 1080i60 is 15MB/s. DVCPRO HD is compressed HD, and really doesn't take up that much space.
