DVX hiss problem.

A while back I posted about a hiss I was having with my DVX when recording audio (this is a hiss that goes to tape, not just a monitoring hiss.)

here is the thread

I tried everything I could think of and I narrowed it down to a problem with my camera.
Well I found out what it was. It only happens when I'm using direct power, it never happens when I use my battery.
Does anybody else have this problem?
Though it's an easy work around, it would be nice if I could use direct power instead of batteries all the time.
I wonder if I need a power conditioner or something.

not quite sure what you mean...direct power? Is this a ground loop your suffering from? there are adapters for ground loops! have you checked the audio forum?

Not just the DVX, I have seen problems running on AC power with most cameras I have used, consumer and pro. Hiss, noise, hum, and it can effect the image quality, too, along the same lines. Battery power is nice and clean.

What's the issue with battery power? It's one less cord to deal with, and the standard battery with the DVX (and the dvxuser.com batteries) last all day shooting, and then some.

I don't have a problem running off of batteries, I was just kinda bummed that the problem existed. It would be nice to be able to run AC power in case of an emergency or just to save battery power.
I wonder if there is a way to make AC as clean as battery power.

Yeh, definitely you can get a power conditioner. They are becoming popular for home theater use. My friend got one and not only got cleaner audio, but immediately saw a huge improvement in the picture quality, too.

60 cycle hum... it's been terrorizing musicians since the 50's and the advent of electric guitar in rock music. Distortion is a good way to cover it up ;)

this solved my long term power needs

I then purchased an auto battery booster for jump starting cars...a cheap one, with cigarette ports. Since I shoot on a cart [vs. handheld] I can shoot days on end without recharging. I also run my wireless and mixer the same ways.
