The DVX has a counter in the menus that tell how many hours of tape have ran through the camera. The more hours on the meter the more its been used. This should cause some fluctuation in price in the same way mileage on the same model of car would

It's not just "how many hours of tape have run through the camera." It's also how many hours the camera has been on with a tape inserted.
In short, if it's on with a tape inside, the hour meter is ticking.
