DVX from newegg.com?

I stumbled upon the DVX at newegg.com for $3,275. In the images they show the DVX book and magic bullet but there is no mention of the rebate.

I've always thought of newegg as a very respected business, but I had to be sure that I would get the rebate + the other extras. I called and asked if they were an authorized dealer, she replied yes, I asked repeatidly if she was sure that it wasn't a gray model, that they get them directly from Panasonic. She said yes.

I e-mailed them asking the same questions. I received a reply within hours stating yes they were authorized. I replied asking if he was sure they had U.S models. He replied "we only sell in the U.S, so they must be U.S models.". I replied again, he told me I could contact Panasonic for more information.

I'm torn, as the people I was in contact with (while very nice) didn't seem to know exactly what I was talking about. But what about the DVX book and magic bullet?

newegg is one of the best site you could possibly order anything from IMHO. if they show something in the pictures. it will be in the box. that has been my experience for a long time with them. what you should do is contact panasonic sales to ask if they are authorized if your still worried. and if they are.. of course you can always get rush from EVS to price match and youll have no worries at all. :)

Newegg is great, but call Rush at EVS and get the same price. He's a supporter of this site, and he'll hook you up with the DVXUser discount.

Uhhh... did you miss this picture on newegg? No wonder they didn't know what in the hell you were talking about.

Newegg is one of my favorite sites to order computer stuff from. Don't know if they're authorized Panasonic dealers though -- I looked up their zipcode in the Panasonic dealer directory, and they didn't come up.

If what that picture shows is in the box, then yes, it'd be an authorized unit (not necessarily an authorized dealer, but an official Panasonic US product, which means it'd be eligible for warranty coverage).

You should be fine with Newegg. It's a better buy if you live outside of California, so you don't have to pay tax.

I bought a DVX100A from Rush at EVS and when I tried to fill out the rebate online, i got a "could not validate serial number" message. What a pain. I'm guessing this is the system administrator's fault on the rebate site.

Now, I have to mail in a rebate and hope for the best. I'm expecting the worst because on more than one rebate with computer electronics, no check.

*crossing fingers*

Barry_Green, if the warranty would be valid, the rebate should go through too, correct?

I'll be making the purchase on Monday from newegg or EVS (need to open space on credit card). I was in contact with Rush this past week for payment info. But I don't think he'd want to pricematch a non-authorized dealer.

Got this e-mail from newegg's marketing after asking why they weren't advertising the rebate:

Thank you for contacting Newegg.com.

Please accept our sincerest apologies for this inconvenience. I located this
item on our website. However, we currently are not offering a manufacturers mail in rebate at this time.

Well, I've got the weekend to think it over...

I don't know whether the rebate would be honored or not. I would GUESS that as long as it's an authorized unit (meaning, it was sourced from Panasonic US) then the rebate would probably apply, but I don't know that for sure. If it doesn't apply, you're out $500... so that's something to think about for sure...

Call EVS! with the new lower price and DVX user discount -- if they can't match that proce you mentioned, it would probably be so close that it would just be sheer absolute complete lunacy to spend your money ons something you are unsure of for such a major purchase and such a minimal -- if any -- savings.

I'd be saving $122. Eh.

$500 + goodies Vs. maybe an extra 100 something.

Yeah, not worth it. Newegg is a good site, seems they're not avoiding giving a straight answer, they just don't know.

I'll just work extra hours, that way I feel like I got discount. Thanks for the input.

Now my biggest worries are: what accesories do I need...?

Plus you get the people at EVS that you can call and say "hay I saw this thread on thing 'X' on DVXuser ... do you have that?" and they will know what you are talking about.

That's worth the XTRA $100 -- they know the camera and little obscure accessories for it, in addition to the certainty that it is a new warrantyed camera

Hey guys, thanks for all the great vibes! :)

Jan mentioned that most of our current 100A cameras will have trouble registering on the Panny site, and you would have to print and mail in the registration directly.

how do you get the discount at EVS?
do you need to go in there? call them? how does it work, and how much of a discount is it?

spunkme99-

Also, it's not just about getting a great deal on a camera. Remember, if you can swing it, you really want to consider an extended warranty. I baby the crud out of my camera, but I'd hate for it to go kaplooie one day with no insurance.

Newegg seems to only offer a manufacturer's warranty. That is a year. A year goes quick. B&H (though they irk me to no end), Evs, and a few others offer the camera, the rebate and an option to pick up an extended Mack Warranty. That is pretty key. And make sure you factor that in as well. The price of a warranty can vary as much as the price of the camera.

Heck, you may not even think that you would ever in a million years need the warranty. Well, think about that day you may want to sell your cam to upgrade or just because you need the money. If you can offer a camera that still has a year or two on the extended warranty (for $15 bucks the Mack warranty is transferable) it's going to add a lot of value and attractiveness to your camera.

Why?

I couldn't tell you, I think because they are the last ones. She just said that the rebate center will not have all the serials, and a lot will need to be mailed.

The last ones? :-(

OK - we don't know much about the DVX100B (B&H reps I talked to in the store didn't even know there was one coming) - but can we estimate the price that they're going to come out at?

Any DVX users recall what happened between the DVX100 and DVX100A? I'm sitting on the fence about getting one of these or waiting.
