What i mean is i know i can use the DVX for a tv add but if you had the chance to rent a better or more pro cam, what would you go for and why would it be better.
My question really is, would it make a hell of a lot of difference?
It all depends on your budget. If it is an SD commercial, I'd go with the DVX any day. A better or more pro cam might be the Panasonic SDX900. But as stated, it depends on your budget.
The SDX900 has a better lens, more image control, a bigger CCD (less DOF), and more on-set prestiege with clieints. (yes that matters, unless they never are on set)
the next step up for me would be the Varicam, after that S16 probably with an ArriSR, after that we are talking 35mm.
