DVX for streaming?

I have a friend who asked me he had 4 grand to spend on a cam so naturally I said the 100b. He did the research and feel in love with the cam but he is not sure if the 24p or even the size of the cam is a bit much for what he does. He does a lot of photo with video incorporated dvds and puts them on the web. My question I pose is this, is the dvx100b a bit much for video streaming if so whats a good cam for such projects?

thanx :dankk2:

The DVX is one of the best camera's for the money with all of its features bar none. The ability to shoot 30p is ideal for web since most animation and web output defaults to 30 fps. Also the ability to shoot in 24p as well, as this produces high quality progressive output but with a lower data rate (file size) than 60i.

Compression is cleaner as well as you are not deinterlacing.

The Sony VX2100 and of course the PD 170 are excellent but the don't offer the progressive features of the DVX.

Thanks, I knew progressive was the way to go. how does the 24 look when streamed on the web? or is 30 the way to go?

Either looks good. Many web clips are played back at 12-15 fps to make file sizes smaller. These generally don't have sync'd audio like voice. But 24fps streamed will work beautifully and has reduced file size to start with so the compressed file is smaller as well. This is less problematic than with downloaded video since you are streaming but you pay for video storage capacity and bandwidth as part of video stream hosting so keeping the file sizes smaller is also $$$ in the pocket.
